Normal Combos

This part of the guide details all the normal combos of Sub Zero in Mortal Kombat 11.

Cold Encounter

This attack can be performed by pressing Square, Triangle and Circle. This attack is fast and knocks the opponent away, which makes it good if you want to create some space between you and the opponent.

After an eight hit combo, this attack will also deliver a crushing blow, causing a decent amount of extra damage.

Frozen Over

This attack can be performed by pressing Back, Square, Circle and X. This attack has very good range, plus it is a great move to end combos. The only thing you have to be careful about is that the second and third hits are both unsafe on block. This is why it is best used for whiff punishment or for ending combos.

New Threat

This attack can be performed by pressing Triangle, Square, Triangle. This is quite a fast attack, deals decent amount of damage, and knocks the enemy away. Once again, making it a great option if you want some space between yourself and the opponent.

Unchained

This attack can be performed by pressing Back, Triangle, Square. This attack also has good range, and knocks the enemy away. The range is just slightly lower than New Threat but it gets the job done.

The last hit on this attack is unsafe if the opponent blocks it, but the first hit is a good option for anti-air and also good for extending combos.

Final Draw

This attack can be performed by pressing Forward, Triangle, Circle. In this attack, Sub Zero produces an ice axe that he draws overhead to knock the opponent away, also dealing decent damage. While the second hit is unsafe on block, the first hit is not. So you have to make sure you practice your hit confirm with this move in the training mode.

If you equip the enhanced version of Ice Ball in this move, this move then becomes a great way to start combos. If the opponent is blocking while ducking, or blocking while standing, you can still hit them with a full combo if you read their defensive move correctly. If you use this as a counter attack, or want to punish the opponent, it will cause a crushing blow dealing a huge amount of damage.

Below Freezing

This attack can be performed by pressing X, X. this attack has decent range and also knocks the opponent down, plus it is also hard to block as Sub Zero is just too quick to dish out the attack. This makes it a very decent move for an attack.

Frosty

This attack can be performed by pressing Back, X, Triangle, Square. This attack starts with hitting the opponent low on the knees, and is pretty safe on block as well. The second hit is great to start a combo as well.

Brutal Kick

This attack can be performed by pressing Forward, Circle. This move has great range and makes the opponent’s block useless as it is +6 on block. This makes the opponent open for whatever attack comes next.

Special Moves

This part of the guide details all the special moves of Sub Zero in Mortal Kombat 11.

Ice Ball

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Right, Square. This is a quick projectile attack and is a standard combo extender move. In addition, this attack can be enhanced as well, costing you two slots.

While Ice Ball is your standard combo extender, it is very unsafe if blocked. So its best to never use this attack when you are up close to the opponent, and are sure you can land this hit. It is worth mentioning that any attack that you follow up after Ice Ball will do reduced damage. This is where other special moves like Rising Ice that do not reduce your damage, however lacks range.

Slide

This attack can be performed by pressing Back, Forward, X. This is a quick hitting low attack that is best for ending combos. The only catch is that it is very unsafe on block, just like Ice Ball.

This move is best saved for ending combos, or punishing opponents from a distance. If you enhance the move, and hit the opponent three times, it will cause a crushing blow and deal even more damage.

Creeping Ice

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Forward, Circle. This attack also hits low and will staggers the opponent. While the attack is slow on start-up, the enhanced version is safe on block, making it good to end attack strings, while also keeping you safe.

The only problem is that the slow start-up can make you vulnerable if your opponent is fast in reacting to it.

Frigid Storm

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Forward, Triangle. This attack is a mid-hitting projectile that deals a good amount of damage. Your opponent cant duck under it, making them helpless.

Cold Shoulder

This attack can be performed by pressing Back, Forward X. This move is similar to Slide, but deals more damage. If you enhance this move, Sub Zero will stay in front making it a great way to end combos when your opponent is cornered.

The enhanced version of this attack will also deal a crushing blow as a counter hit, or when you go for a punish. This deals way more extra damage in the end.

Rising Ice

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Back, X. This attack is very useful in the sense that it is very safe on block. If you enhance this attack, it becomes a great combo extending move, especially when your opponent is cornered. This is a very low risk move even when you have enhanced it as it is safe on block.

Death-Cicle Barrage

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Back, Triangle. In this attack, Sub Zero steps back and throws a  cluster of ice projectiles at the enemy. its range does have a limit, which means you have to come a bit close to the opponent. It is a great retreat move to be honest.

Ground Ice

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Back, Square. This attack is unblockable, and freezes the opponent in one place as their feet are frozen. This attack can lead to multiple combos.

Its start up is very slow, so its best to cancel your combo when your opponent is mid air, and then execute this move as they land. This will instantly stick them on the ground, where you can follow with more attacks.

A tip with this move is that you can still use Ice Ball to extend your combo afterwards, making it possible to freeze your opponents twice in the same combo.

(Air) Polar Axe

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Back Triangle. This is a air attack where Sub Zero jumps in the air, and throws an axe projectile down towards the enemy. while it doesn’t seem so special to you, it is very handy in avoiding ground attacks from your opponents below, as it has a little hang time before he actually throws the projectile.

Arctic Trap

This attack can be performed by pressing Down, Back, Circle. This attack is pretty similar to Ground Ice, in the sense that it freezes the opponent in place. However it differs as the projectile is placed at a certain place, and the opponent only freezes when they come in contact with it.

While trickier to perform, if you can execute this well, it becomes a very good way to reset the opponent for a decent combo. It also works as a good corner combo since your opponent has to block your next mix up as they are getting up.

Crushing Blow

This attack deals massive damage and has decent range. This is great to end corner combo. Its best to use this move after a short combo attack.
