Konami and Bloober Team Officially Reveal Silent Hill 2 Remake for PS5

Publisher Konami and developer Bloober Team are teaming up to release the official remake of Silent Hill 2. After years of silence and a potential cancelation of a Silent Hill game which was originally planned for the PS4 console, we are now getting the latest title in the franchise. Although it might not be a new title technically, Silent Hill 2 Remake is a comeback of a franchise that was considered dead for a long time, and this could pave way for additional titles in the future as well such as the newly announced Silent Hill F.

Check out the teaser trailer for Silent Hill 2 Remake for the PS5 below before we jump into additional details about the title:

Silent Hill 2 was originally released back in 2001 for the PS2 console and it is considered one of the best games in the franchise. In the official blog post, Konami producer Motoi Okamoto details that they have been getting proposals for a lot of new entries and remakes for quite some time however Bloober Team was the development team that finally won and now we will be getting a Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Moving further, Mateusz Lenart, Creative Director & Lead Designer at Bloober Team details that Silent Hill 2 holds a special place in the hearts of nearly all of the developers at Bloober Team which is why the team will be handling the project with great care and respect. The team is striving to preserve the atmosphere of the original game while modernizing many aspects of the game’s overall gameplay. Bloober Team is working with the original creators of Silent Hill 2 including Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito to ensure that the unique Silent Hill feel is kept intact.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

The reveal trailer for Silent Hill 2 showcases one of the new elements which is the over-the-shoulder camera for a more immersive experience of the game. To cater to this new camera system, the developer is also developing a new combat system for the game and certain set-pieces among many different things in the game. This will introduce a whole new level of horror atmosphere because now you will be able to see what James is able to see and this will keep you on edge the whole time. Technology has improved massively since the release of the original Silent Hill 2 game and the developers will now use it fully for Silent Hill 2 Remake.

The game will also feature brand-new facial expressions in the series and the characters will now show a wide range of emotions even before they speak a single word. Silent Hill 2 Remake will be built on Unreal Engine 5 which will allow Bloober Team to bring the sinister town to life like never before. The game will be improved visually, auditorily, and sensorily. Using the Unreal Engine 5 features such as Lumen and Nanite, the visual experience of the game will be raised to new, highly detailed, and realistic levels.

If you are unaware of Lumen and Nanite, then Lumen is a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes. It means that the in-game light reacts to environmental changes just like it does in real life. This makes the whole game environment light up more naturally. On the other hand, the Nanite technology benefits level designers as it allows them to create levels and environments that look just like the real world. PS5 will also allow developers to further enhance the game’s sound and audio design. With the PS5’s 3D audio, players will be able to determine the exact location of each and every sound in the game as the WWise sound engine creates a realistic and believable surround sound experience, allowing a new level of immersion.

Silent Hill Remake 2 will also make full use of the DualSense Controller and its advanced features. The remake will make full use of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers and additional plans are also in the works, but the developer is currently keeping them a surprise. Since the PS5 uses SSD technology, you can expect Silent Hill 2 Remake to make full use of this as well with no loading screens and a seamless gameplay experience for maximum immersion. So far, Konami and Bloober Team have shared these initial details about the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake, and we can expect more details in the upcoming weeks.

Bloober Team is not new in the horror video game scene, and they have released some of the best horror games in the past years. Their previous releases include titles such as Blair Witch, Observer, Layers of Fear, and The Medium. It was only fair that Konami would give the project to a team that is equally passionate about horror games and Bloober Team fits this description perfectly. The initial teaser trailer and screenshots look amazing and we cannot see more out of this brilliant title.
