Frostpunk Resources Guide

Below we have detailed all the different types of resources that you can find in the game. We have also detailed how you can collect and use them.

Wood

This is the most basic resource item that you can find in the game and is the best for making all types of basic structures that require wood. At the starting of the game, you will have limited sources of wood, which will be via the wood crates. You will have at least 120 wood crates when you begin the game.

As your city grows, your requirement for wood will also increase. But with a limited amount, you will run out of wood pretty soon. You can manage your wood by having Sawmills near-frozen trees and Wall Drill near the crater wall. This is a common way you can collect woof for yourself and store them with your other resources. Make sure that you have a Sawmill near a lot of frozen trees so that you can have the maximum amount of wood coming out.

Iron

Iron is another basic but very important resource material in the game. You can only collect Iron by collecting them from the various iron deposits in the game. Instead of going to collect iron, you have to build a Steelworks near a lot of iron deposits to collect it automatically. You can usually get around 100,000 iron in a single deposit, which is a lot. When you build a Steelwork, you can get 60 iron per day.

Coal

This is one of the most important resources you can find in the game. Coal is needed to power up your generators and the steam hubs, which burn coal for the continuous power they supply. Coal can be collected from Coal piles that can be found from all around the world. You can get at least 500 coal just from one such pile. If you want to increase the speed of harvesting the coal, you can assign 15 workers on a single pile to collect coal.

In addition to coal piles, you also have coal deposits. Build a coal mine near such deposits so that you can extract the coal. A single deposit can give you 100,000 coal. To find more deposits you can go for scouting missions.

Steam Core

These are power generators that can power up your various buildings like the Hothouse, Wall Drill, and Coal Mine. Without the steam core, these structures will not function at all. Steam Cores cannot be produced by yourself, which is why they can only be found during your scouting expeditions. These are one the rarest resource items you can find in the game, so pick one up whenever you can find one.

Food

This is a vital resource item that you will need to sustain your society. Every person in your city will require food to survive and multiply. This is where you will need to have a constant supply of food for your people.

Food Resources need to be stacked into rations and need to be cooked for your society to survive on. You can create food rations by cooking raw food at the Cookhouse. This building will cook all the types of food from your food resources for the people to consume. If you do not have a cookhouse, the people will be forced to feed on raw food, which is less efficient. This is because a raw food that is processed can feed two people, but if consumed raw, it will only feed one.

To get raw food, you will need to construct a Hunter’s Hut and a Hothouse that will give you raw food. With that, the expedition parties that set out to explore will bring in raw food when they are out scouting the areas. Storing raw food ensures that you have a lot of resources to feed your people.

Steel

This item is mainly used to help build structures, and in researching new structures and upgrades. Steel can be taken from old wreckages and can be taken by smelting iron. If you are just beginning with the game, you will have some source of Steel wreckages where you can get steel from. At each wreckage pile, you have 15 people working to collect it. a single steel wreckage will give you around 60 steel.
