World Tendency is a unique game mechanic in Demon’s Souls that alters the world around you. It is important that you understand it properly because this particular mechanic will affect everything happening around you, such as the number of enemies spawning on a map, how hard these enemies are, and what type of loot these enemies will drop when you kill them. This makes understanding the World Tendency mechanic a rather important mechanic because if you are looking for a certain item, you may need to alter the World Tendency accordingly. This Demon’s Souls World Tendency Guide will help you understand how world tendencies work in Demon’s Souls and how you can alter them for your benefit.

World Tendency Guide – Demon’s Souls

Read on below to learn everything you need to know about World Tendencies in Demon’s Souls.

Types of World Tendencies:

There are two different types of World Tendencies: White Tendency and Black Tendency. The White Tendency will make enemies easier to kill, but they will drop low-quality loot. They will also give you fewer souls when you kill them. If you are looking to gain valuable loot and a higher number of souls when you kill enemies, you must have Black Tendency in the world.

To gain White Tendency, you will need to either kill a boss or a Black Phantom. Each world has multiple bosses, so if you die after killing a boss, you will lose the White Tendency; however, if you manage to kill all bosses of a world within the same life, you will be able to reach Pure White Tendency in that particular playthrough. When you kill a boss, you become human, and during this form, if you die in a world, your tendency will shift towards darkness. If you die in your phantom form, you will not affect that world’s tendency.

There are five unique worlds represented by a different Archstone and each world here has its own unique World Tendency. If you die in your human form in a world, only that particular world’s tendency will shift towards darkness. Each world has its own unique tendency, so you do not need to worry about shifting the entire game’s tendency if you die in one world. For shifting your White Tendency to Black Tendency, you can kill yourself again and again in your human form in a particular world, and that world will have Black Tendency.

If you want to return to your phantom form without affecting the world’s tendency, you can go back to the Nexus and jump off the stairs to kill yourself. This will not affect the World Tendency in any way. In addition, the World Tendency effects only start showing after you have killed a Boss or a Black Phantom, returned to the Nexus, and then back to that particular world. Certain enemies can only be killed in certain tendencies, and certain weapons can only be obtained in certain tendencies, so make sure you have the right tendency.
