The Vanguard boss has three types of main attacks, where most of them leave it vulnerable for a small period. The most basic attack it produces is the horizontal swing with its axe. This slashing attack can go from left to right or right to left, depending on your position.

Each time the Vanguard swings at you, dodge in the opposite direction away from the direction of its swing. This will have you perfectly positioned for a counterattack as you will be placed at the Vanguard’s sides. This counterattack needs to be timed well, at the right moment when you see the boss about to hit. It is best to practice a bit and get your timing right.

The second attack is the overhead swing, where the Vanguard hits straight ahead. This attack will end with the boss’s ax being stuck on the ground.
