Death Stranding Beached Things (BTs) Guide
Below we have detailed how you can fight and defeat the Beached Things or BTs in the game.
How to Detect Beached Things
The first sign of a Beached thing is when your scanner starts blinking. The closer you are two one, the faster it will blink. However, the scanner only senses their proximity by sensing how close or far you are from the BTs.
If you get too close to a BT, the scanner will then turn orange to indicate that you are very close to it. It is at this point that you might be able to make out a little shape of the BTs by using your terrain scanner. To use your terrain scanner, press the R1 button.
A better way to detect the BTs is to use your Bridge Baby. The BB allows you to scan and make out the shape of a BT when you use it. The BB is primarily used for this function as it completely shows what type of BT is in front of you and where it is standing.
How to Fight BTs
The most sensible decision to make against the BTs is to escape and evade any confrontation with them. The BTs are powerful enemies that are also invisible. This is why your best option is to stay away from them and avoid running into their paths once you sense them.
You cant always run away from BTs as you will be completing quests that will pit you against these enemies. Though you can evade, you can also fight them and deal damage to them. Once BTs detect you, they will come after you. Your only option here is to launch grenades at them to fight back. This gives you time to run away and stall the BTs that might have starting chasing you after you were detected.
At times, a BT will grab you hold you in its grip. You can let yourself loose from its grip by pressing the Square button to free yourself. When you are successful, run away and avoid any obstacles where you might trip and fall. This might allow the BTs to catch up and capture you again.
How to Get Hematic Grenades
Another way to fight the BTs is to get the Hematic grenades. These are anti-BT grenades that deal much more damage to the BTs as they are specially designed to work against them.
However, to get them, you need to complete the Order Number 14 story mission. Hematic Grenades are blood-filled grenades that explode and release a spray of blood. They require to be filled with blood, which you can do by using Blood Bags or Blood Containers. These items are found in the open world and can be stored in your inventory. If you run out of blood bags and containers, you can use Sam’s blood instead. However, this will cost a chunk of Sam’s health but can be used at desperate times.
Once you have the Hematic Grenade and are ready to fling it over to the BT, make sure that you know the exact location of this floating creature and then launch is straight at it. Once the BT is hit with the blood that is released from the Hematic Grenade, it will disappear. You can also loot the area for items that the defeated BTs might have dropped.
