These are all detailed below in our Dauntless Beginner’s Guide. Dauntless is not a game that you can simply fire up, play for a small time and be done with it. With our Dauntless Beginner’s Guide, you will be up to speed on how to kill these behemoths in no time.

Beginner’s Guide – Behemoth

Our Dauntless Beginner’s Guide details everything that you need to know about playing Dauntless for the first time.

Understand Behemoth’s Moves

Each behemoth in Dauntless in unique and you will notice that each behemoth will come in a specific form before landing different attacks on you. It is vital that you understand each behemoth’s movement patterns and attack patterns and then prepare accordingly for your next move. Some behemoths will crouch before pouncing or arch its back before landing an attack.

Take the initial few minutes to understand the attack patterns of each behemoth. Since the battles will take place in different phases and not just one, you should try to be careful at all times and make sure that each move is calculated so that you don’t end up being behemoth fodder instead. Some behemoths will follow one attack after another so you must be aware of chained attacks as well.

Understanding how a behemoth moves and lands different attacks are vital and will ensure your survival in each battle. This will help you to dodge in time, plan your attack strategy and ensure that you have the upper hand in the battle. Never spam attacks because Dauntless is not a simple button smasher. You will need a good attack and defense strategy unique to each behemoth to defeat them.

Take Advantage of Invulnerability Frames

Just like any other game of this genre, Dauntless will also give you small invulnerability window which will help you avoid massive behemoth attacks without getting a scratch. You have the ability to dodge in Dauntless and this can be used to take advantage of these windows. Make sure that you use these windows to your advantage during the fights.

Every time you see a behemoth land an otherwise damaging attack, roll into them rather than away from them. This will ensure that you avoid the attack and roll into the enemy without getting any damage. Once close, you can land some hits on the enemy and get then back away to safety.

Choose Your Weapon Wisely

Dauntless gives you the freedom of picking your own weapon which suits your playstyle. There are six different weapons in the game and each weapon comes with its own unique playstyle. You have the option to choose between swords, chain blades, axes, repeaters, war pikes and hammers.

Each weapon in the game is unique and they all come with their own unique playstyles. We have a separate weapons guide which will details all weapon types and share with you the unique aspects of each guide. Head over to our Dauntless Weapons Guide to check out each weapon in detail.

Collect Crafting Materials

Although Dauntless is not an open-world game before each fight, you will have a decent enough map to explore as you find the behemoth that you have to kill. During this exploration mode, you can find and collect different crafting materials in the area. These resources will help you craft new gear so that you can effectively take down behemoths.

Explore each area thoroughly and make sure that you collect everything that you see. Do not leave anything behind. When you get close to a resource that can be collected, you will see an icon appear on the screen which will prompt that the resource can be collected. You will also find a lot of crafting materials from the dead bodies of different behemoths that you will kill.

Complete Daily Quest

Each day when you sign in Dauntless, your Journal will have a brand new set of daily quests that you can complete and earn some cool loot. However, you must keep in mind that these are daily objectives and will go away after a specific time so you will need to be quick with them. Since these are timed events, they will also give you better rewards on completion. There is also a Weekly Quest that you can complete.

Make sure that you check your journal every time you sign in the game and try to complete as many daily quests as possible because they will get you some really cool rewards. You will also earn XP which will help you level up quickly and each time you level up; you will get a Core. Open it up and you will get a random loot of prizes such as dyes, emotes and more. Complete as many daily quests as possible if you want to level up quickly.

Warn your Friends of Danger

At the start of each hunt, your team will need to find the behemoth as its location will not be marked on the map. Once you have found the behemoth, you can identify your team its location by firing up a flame. Do not be a hero and try to take on the behemoth on your own because it will most probably tear you to bits. Warn your enemies of any danger in case you find the behemoth so they can come to your location and provide support in killing it.

Heal Yourself

There are potions in Dauntless that will keep your vitality from reaching zero but some behemoths are very brutal and you will eventually run out of potions while fighting them. To ensure that you do not die after you’ve run out of healing items, you can heal yourself another way that will not require any items.

You will often come across some blue cracks in the ground which appear to be emitting out blue light energy from them. Go to these blue cracks and you will be able to heal yourself however it will grow dim with each use.

The energy in them is not infinite and they will eventually run out of any healing energy. You can use these blue cracks in the ground to heal yourself at any given time during the battles given that the source has not run out of healing juice.

Make sure that you use your own healing items first and keep the blue cracks only for emergency use because they will become useless after a few uses and it is best to save them for the last phases of the battle. It counts for all players so you must be considerate about your teammates as well.

Cut Off Behemoth Tails

You will notice that nearly all behemoths that have a tail will use it as a weapon and will hit you from where you are least expecting it to strike. You can always dodge the tail attacks but why stop at just dodging when you can chop it off? Focus your attacks on the behemoth’s tail and you will soon chop it off lessening one weapon from behemoth’s arsenal.

However, cutting off tails can sometimes turn the other way around as it will make the behemoth furious and it will switch to newer tactics and more powerful ones. Each behemoth behaves in a unique way so you must understand which behemoth’s tail is worth cutting or not. If the behemoth does not react too violently to cutting its tail off, feel free to chop it off.

Understand Damage Types

When you start hitting behemoths in Dauntless, you will notice that sometimes, your hits will show damage dealt of a different color to the behemoths. This is not a glitch and this is indeed a game mechanic which shows a different type of damage being dealt to behemoths when different color damage appears after you land an attack.

There are four different types of damage types and we have detailed them below.

  • Green – Green is the color of regular damage.
  • Yellow – Yellow is the color of damage dealt to behemoth body parts which will eventually come off such as a tail or a limb.
  • Blue – Blue is the color of stagger damage dealt to a behemoth. Deal enough stagger damage and the behemoth will collapse or interrupt its attack.
  • Red – Red is the color of wound damage dealt to a behemoth. It will deal the most damage and will eventually apply a debuff to it.
