Beginner’s Guide – Code Vein
Our Code Vein Beginner’s Guide details everything that you need to know in order to start playing Code Vein along with some tips and tricks.
Character Creation is Only Visual
When you start the game, you are presented with a detailed character creator which allows you to create your own character. You have tons of options to play around with here including your gender, skin color, hair, face, clothes and a lot more. You can also select your character’s voice here. However, you should know that all of this is purely cosmetic and no matter what you choose, the starting stats of your character are not effected in any way. So you can create whatever you like here without any worry of changes to the game formula and such.
Explore at Your Own Risk
The world of Code Vein is very unforgiving and certain places are designed specifically to kill you. Although I do not imply here that you stick to the main path and avoid everything else. You must explore each dungeon and area very thoroughly to the very last bit however you must be extremely cautious at all times. A corner may hide a deadly enemy waiting to swoop on you or sometimes they will drop on your from above as well which is not cool at all.
Most of the areas have very short and twisting paths with falls on either side so you have to tread very carefully here and avoid not to fall down. Dodge around enemies carefully where you never know where a cliff might be there to kill you instantly. Each area you go will bring new enemies, bosses, and challenges for you to overcome so always be on the lookout for something dangerous.
Managing Death
You will die a lot in Code Vein if you are not careful because the enemies are relentless and they will not stop at anything to not kill you. Apart from the enemies, the sheer drops here and there are extremely annoying and we died more times from falling down rather than by enemies. Typical to most RPGs, Code Vein follows a similar pattern of handling your death. If you die, you will drop all your Haze collected at that spot.
To retrieve it, you must do so by going back to this very spot and not dying on your way to its retrieval. If you die again, you will lose all of it. Every time you die in Code Vein before you can retrieve your previous dropped Haze, you will lose it and drop a new one at the recent death location.
Understand Your Focus Gauge
Focus Gauge is one of the most important gauges and you must be well aware of it if you want to play the game properly. Focus Gauge is located right next to your health and stamina bars. Unlike Health and Stamina bars, your Focus gauge is only filled when you nail a perfect dodge or you get hit from your enemies.
The real magic happens when the Focus gauge is completely filled. When you have managed to fill your Focus gauge, you will be able to replenish your stamina quickly, enemies will have a hard time to throw you out of balance, you will easily throw enemies out of balance and you can perform a powerful attack which will launch enemies in the air. However, your gauge will be depleted after any of these things are done.
General Tips and Tricks
- Always keep an eye on your stamina bar. Every action in Code Vein requires stamina whether you want to attack, dodge, sprint or block. Once your stamina bar depletes, you will need to wait until the bar is filled sufficiently before you can attack again or dodge attacks. There’s a small trick which allows faster than normal stamina regeneration and that is to never deplete the bar completely. Make sure you leave a little in the bar and it will regenerate much quicker rather than when you deplete it completely.
- You can always get some NPCs to help you out in defeating enemies and playing the game. To do so, choose Switch partner is a Mistle and select the NPC who you want to play the game with. With a partner chosen, you will not have to play the game alone and these NPCs can really help you in certain tricky situations in the game as well.
- Always use the equipment siting to your playstyle. Every equipment type in the game has a different weight rating so they will affect your movement in the game. Using lighter equipment will allow you to be more agile and dodge around your enemies easily. On the other hand, heavier equipment will protect you better but will also make you slower. With the right type of equipment, you can easily adjust your playstyle in Code Vein.
- Avoid taking large groups of enemies head-on. This strategy works in every RPG and it works here as well. If you see a large group of enemies, lure a few of them away and take them down before challenging the rest of the enemies. This will ensure that you are never overpowered and surrounded by your enemies while playing the game.
- As you play the game and defeat enemies and bosses, you will earn experience points. You can use these experience points to make your character better in many different ways. You can choose to increase certain stats of your character or you can also learn many new abilities to help make playing the game in different ways. Make sure that you invest your experience points in new skills and improve your stats to make your character better and more capable of handling different situations thrown at it.
