Chronos: Before the Ashes Beginner’s Guide

Below we have detailed some tips for beginners.

Game Mechanics

The list below contains a few tips on how the game actually works.

  • Anytime that you die, you will lose one year from your character’s life. You will not lose the items in your inventory and don’t require to go back to where you died to get everything back. Dying will also reset the enemies in all the areas that you might have fought before.
  • You can also fast travel using the stones. These will allow you to traverse to a different point or location you want to go. However, fast traveling does not reset your health back to full, nor does it respawn enemies back to their positions.
  • When your character reaches age 20, you will get three passive abilities. Furthermore, you will get more passive abilities unlocked every 10+ years at the ages of 30,40, and so on.
  • As you gain more XP, you will level up your character. This is indicated by the orange glow indicates you have leveled up, while also awarding you Skill Points that you can use on your character attributes. In addition, you also get your health fully restored when you level up

Combat

Combat in Chronos: Before the Ashes has your basic dodge and evade, or block and parry an attack when defending against the enemies attacks. On the other hand, you have your heavy and light attacks, while a charged attack for a more powerful hit.

You can also lock onto your enemies to focus on a single target. However, the best way to fight against all types of enemies is to have the perfect timing with your dodge and evade to boost your counterattack stats. Get yourself familiar with your parrying technique until you can confidently parry an enemy attack to leave them open for hits. Parrying an attack is a very rewarding combat feature in the game which will always work in your favor against all types of enemies in the game. Mastering this basic move will always give you the upper hand in combat.

Weapon Upgrading

As you play the game and fight enemies, you will be getting Dragon Shards. These are special items that allow you to upgrade your weapons in the game. Dragon Shards can then be used on your weapon to boost their stats like Damage and Agility Affinity.

But you shouldn’t worry too much about upgrading just one main weapon. As you play the game, you will find more weapons that will be more powerful and better than what you previously had. This of course means that you will need to complete puzzles and main quest tasks to get them.

The Dragon Shards are not that hard to find as they are dropped by enemies. if you are looking to farm them, make sure that you don’t leave any enemy behind and defeat them for their dropped loot and Dragon Shards.

Leveling Up

As mentioned before in the basic game mechanics, simply playing the game and fighting against enemies will give you XP that will level up your character, and reward you with skill points to upgrade attributes.

Your character has three attributes that you can upgrade with skill points:

  • Agility
  • Arcane
  • Vitality

Upgrading Agility and Vitality only costs you a single, while it takes three points to upgrade your Arcane. In the early stages and especially when you are a beginner in the game, you shouldn’t worry too much about upgrading your Arcane, but the rest of the two attributes.

This ensures that you don’t waste skill points on Arcane while ensuring that your character becomes stronger in their early state. In addition, as you progress in the game, Agility and Strength become more expensive to upgrade. This means that if you upgrade them early, you can get away with spending fewer skill points.
