We heard that Chrome OS Windows 10 dual-boot support might be coming soon and that seems to be true from recent reports. It makes sense because Chrome-based notebooks are getting very powerful and they are capable of taking advantage of the Windows 10 operating system. Dual-boot support adds value and flexibility to users who prefer Windows.
From what we can see, Google is actively testing this feature along with testing disk partitioning when cycling the dual boot functionality on and off and UEFI security.
The Pixel Book is a perfect example of a Chromebook that can take advantage of Windows 10. Windows 10 offers plenty of options that you do not get on Chrome OS and it would be the right move to make for Google.
It is worth mentioning that entry-level Chromebooks will not get the official Chrome OS Windows 10 dual-boot support. Devices will need at least 40 GB of storage in order to facilitate both operating systems. Devices with 32 GB of storage will not come with this feature.
Devices will also need better hardware, which means that devices with at least 4 GB of RAM will have official dual-boot support. Running both operating systems on a machine is possible right now but it requires some work. Official Chrome OS Windows 10 dual-boot support will make things much easier and more convenient.
One of the reasons why Chromebooks are popular is that they are relatively inexpensive compared to other laptops. With dual operating systems and better hardware, the price might be higher as well. So while you are getting the added benefits of Windows 10, you are also paying a higher price.
It will be interesting to see how many people will move to Chromebooks once this feature is officially supported. We will keep you updated regarding the matter, so stay tuned for more information.
