Ubisoft has announced a partnership with Unsolved Hunts for a treasure hunt to celebrate the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. Titled ‘Gold & Crystal – The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway’, this treasure hunt will allow players to participate and try to win a massive $500,000 treasure hidden in the Caribbean. Unsolved Hunts is a French startup that started in 2022 and has so far organized three real-world treasure hunts, with the biggest one being Exkalibur, which featured a €250,000 prize, inspired by the Arthurian legend.
Players interested in this immersive treasure hunt can preorder their access to the hunt starting from $40 on the official website. The treasure hunt will officially begin on November 9, 2026. Gold & Crystal combines different elements that must be solved prior to the main hunt. This includes a crypted message in a bottle, a map of the Caribbean, a collection of letters, and archives containing 15 puzzles, packed with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced references.
All of the puzzles are remote, and participants can solve them from anywhere in the world, without any knowledge of the game. Once these clues are solved, it will lead to the location of a chest, buried somewhere in the Caribbean. This is not a small hunt, as the creators are expecting it to last for between two and five years. The first player to find the location will be taken to the Caribbean to unearth the chest and win a treasure valued at $500,000.
The prize includes an authentic pirate treasure: a crystal skull – replica of the famous skull from the game – crafted by French lapidary artisan Hervé Obligi, and a chest filled with gold coins, minted with the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced logo, created by AuCOFFRE, a company that excels in precious metals trading. Additional details about the treasure hunt are found on the official treasure hunt website.
