Anthem Cataclysm Vara Boss Guide
Below we have detailed Vara Boss Fight with her attacks, and how you can defeat this boss.
How to Defeat Vara
The first thing you should be aware of is that the arena will have Vara in the middle where she will focus on you with her projectile-based attacks and other fire attacks that she can summon. Vara is also immune to damage if the Rift is not activated above her in the middle of the battle area. You have to make sure that it stays active so that you can continue with your attacks.
The arena has pillars that you can use on some attacks that fill the ground with fire, where the pillars are your only respite. Having said that, the best way to take her down is with ranged weapon attacks and ultimate attacks using your primers and detonators. If you are using a ranged weapon, focus on her head to deal the most damage you can. On the other hand, your Ultimate attacks can take a good chunk of health off from her.
Vara’s Phases and Attacks
Vara fights in two phases. The first phase consists of a few attacks that she throws at you. The first is the Ice Barrage, which is essentially an ice projectile attack that can freeze you in one place. If you get frozen, the attack always follows up with her Charged Fire Beam attack that keeps hitting your frozen Javelin. This combo attack is very powerful and takes almost all of your health away.
The best way to avoid these two attacks is to dodge the ice projectile attacks. Sometimes, you may be caught in with this attack as Vara follows your direction of dodging. This can be countered by taking refuge behind the pillars.
Vara also has two more attacks in this first phase, which includes a fire attack that she summons out of the air to your position. Again, this can only be dodge at the right moment and does not have an area of effect if you can dodge nearby. Another attack she has in this first phase is the ring of fire that starts from the outside and shortens to force you closer to the middle. Be aware, that this attack is very lethal and can kill you instantly. To avoid getting hit by the Ring of Fire, jump ahead and stand in the middle where the area is blue.
When you have depleted approximately more than 70% of Vara’s health, she begins Phase 2. This phase is where Vara turns the whole area into a boiling hot fire pool, except the pillars which are the only way you can be safe. While the floor is untouchable, Vara uses the lack of your ground to use more of her attacks. One such attack is the Stationary Fireballs which track your location and bombard you with fireballs. This attack stays active for a while, which means you should keep dodging it and never stop at one location. And since you have only the pillars as your ground, you need to keep moving from pillar to pillar.
In conclusion, Vara is an easy boss to fight if you know her attacks and can keep moving. She also has no defense at all and is always vulnerable to headshots and Ultimate attacks. Her weakest point is the head, which is always open and clear for headshots. She also has no dodge defense which she can utilize on.
