This Solarpunk Guide details how you can increase your inventory space in the game for carrying more items without having to return. As you progress through Solarpunk, carrying more resources becomes increasingly important. Thankfully, your backpack can be upgraded by exploring distant islands and finding abandoned packs in specific locations. Each upgrade adds seven extra inventory slots. Since you start with 21 spaces, collecting all three upgrades increases your capacity to a total of 42 slots, giving you much more room for materials and supplies.
Increasing Inventory Space Guide – Solarpunk
Inventory upgrades are not crafted or purchased. Instead, they are found while exploring the world. Each upgrade appears as a backpack-like object placed somewhere on an island, and reaching those islands requires certain Airship Upgrades. There are three expansions in total, and each one becomes available later in the game as your airship gains access to new areas.
First Backpack Upgrade
After unlocking Airship Upgrade 2, travel to the small island located north-northwest of your starting area. Besides the inventory upgrade, this island also contains useful resources such as carrots and even a pig.
Once you arrive, head to the river and then turn around to follow the nearby path leading uphill. Continue walking until the trail splits into two directions. The path on the left continues farther up the island, but the one on the right leads downward toward a small cave. Take the right-hand path and enter the cave.
Keep moving through the cave until you come across some wild carrots. Near the right wall, you will find the backpack upgrade leaning against the rock. It can be easy to overlook when entering the cave, so if you miss it at first, turn around and look carefully for its glow. Picking it up rewards you with your first inventory expansion. Although another upgrade exists, you will need Airship Upgrade 3 before you can reach it.
Second Backpack Upgrade
With Airship Upgrade 3 installed, several new islands become available, and you will start finding resources like algae, corn, tomatoes, and cobalt. This upgrade also allows you to collect the second inventory expansion.
Travel to the large island in the southeast that has a long, narrow shape. Land near the tip of the island and follow the path ahead. Continue along the trail until you reach a cliff area with two ore deposits nearby.
Look beneath the cliff, directly opposite the ores. The second backpack upgrade is hidden there. Once collected, you will gain another seven inventory slots, giving you even more room to carry supplies during your adventures.
Final Inventory Expansion
The last backpack upgrade can only be obtained after unlocking Airship Upgrade 4. Your destination is the icy island located at the far western edge of the map.
As you approach, stay low and search beneath the island for a small platform marked by a single tree. The landing area is quite small, so move carefully with your airship to avoid crashing.
After landing safely, walk over to the tree and collect the final backpack upgrade beneath it. This completes all inventory expansions and brings your carrying capacity to its maximum size.
