This Solarpunk Guide details how you can obtain wheat in the game, which is a vital resource in the game for progression. Reaching Research Tier 4 is a major milestone, but many players get stuck when they need wheat to progress. Wheat is not available near your starting island, so you will need to improve your airship and explore farther into the world to island third and four. Once you know where to go and how to increase your supply, getting enough wheat becomes much easier and helps you unlock the next stage of progression.
Wheat Guide – Solarpunk
Wheat starts appearing on islands that are beyond the areas available at the beginning of the game. To reach them, you first need to upgrade your airship. After doing so, you can travel to the islands located to the northwest or visit the larger island to the northeast. These locations naturally grow wheat, which can be harvested and taken back to your base. Whenever you collect wheat, make sure to plant the seeds instead of relying only on wild plants.
Expanding Your Airship’s Range
When the airship is first built, your travel options are very limited. You can visit the Tradebot and one nearby island where you will find copper and watermelons. Attempting to fly beyond those areas won’t work, as strong winds block further travel.
To unlock more islands, you will need to obtain Airship Upgrade 1 through the Tradebot. However, this upgrade isn’t available immediately. Several exchanges must be completed first, with each one unlocking the next.
The first trade requires four watermelons and rewards you with a Sprinkler Set. After that, having twelve cotton provides a blueprint. A third exchange asks for twenty beeswax and gives another blueprint, followed by a fourth trade that requires ten watermelons and rewards yet another blueprint.
Once those trades have been finished, you can finally exchange thirty-two copper for Airship Upgrade 1. Because gathering copper manually can take a while, setting up a drill on the second island is a useful way to collect the ore much faster.
Applying the Upgrade
After receiving Airship Upgrade 1, head back to your dock and interact with the Airship Bench. Open the map and choose the upgrade option found at the bottom. Once the process is complete, the restricted areas become accessible, and you can start visiting the next group of islands where wheat grows naturally.
Building Up Your Wheat Supply
Finding wheat for the first time is only the beginning. Replanting the seeds at your base is the easiest way to create a reliable source for future needs.
There is also another way to collect a little extra. If you use the Magnetic Fishing Rod while fishing on islands where wheat naturally grows, there is a small chance of catching additional wheat.
