CRKD has announced a new Cherry variant of its Gibson SG Guitar Controller, expanding its lineup for PS5 and PS4 guitar controllers. The updated model builds on the Black edition released in 2025, bringing a new color option while retaining the same modernized feature set designed for contemporary rhythm games.
The controller is based on the classic Gibson SG design that became widely associated with rhythm games during the PlayStation 2 era. The new Cherry version continues that legacy while updating the hardware to support current platforms and software. It is compatible with titles such as Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4 on PlayStation consoles, while also supporting community-driven rhythm games like Clone Hero and YARG on PC. A dedicated Legacy Mode enables compatibility with older Guitar Hero and Rock Band entries, extending its usability across multiple generations of games.
In terms of hardware, the controller incorporates updated input technology aimed at improving responsiveness and durability. It features CRKD’s Hall Effect strum bar, designed to provide more precise input detection and consistent performance during extended play sessions. The fretboard uses mechanical inputs, while a Hall Effect whammy bar supports more reliable modulation during gameplay. Additional controls, including analog sticks and a rear-mounted directional pad, allow for easier navigation through modern game interfaces without requiring a separate controller.
The design emphasizes both functionality and presentation, with a matte Cherry body and black detailing intended to reflect the original instrument’s aesthetic while aligning with CRKD’s collectible-focused approach. Through the companion CTRL app, users can adjust settings such as button mapping, sensitivity, and tilt controls, as well as register the controller within the company’s tracking system for collectibles.
