Offworld Industries has released update 1.9 for Starship Troopers: Extermination, bringing a new enemy type, additional ambush modifiers, and a range of balance changes and equipment updates to the 16-player co-op shooter. The update is now live for Starship Troopers: Extermination across all platforms.
The headline addition is the Fire Bombardier, a new Arachnid enemy that replaces instant explosive damage with lingering fire-based attacks. These enemies leave behind burning zones that can restrict movement and complicate revives during intense engagements, particularly in defensive scenarios.
Update 1.9 also introduces new Ambush Mutators, expanding the variety of combat scenarios players may encounter during missions. These include Royal Guard, Inferno, and Fire Bombardier ambushes, adding new layers of unpredictability to Horde and ARC/AAS Defense modes. Royal Guards, previously confined to hive areas, can now roam the battlefield and join active engagements.
On the equipment side, the update delivers tuning passes to the Armory along with new unlockable weapon modifications. These include ATK (Advanced Tiger Kill) Rounds designed to penetrate heavily armoured targets, a Mag Optic offering a hybrid sight picture between reflex and scoped views, and a Napalm Grenade modification that allows players to deploy lingering incendiary zones. The Napalm Grenades are particularly effective for area denial and corpse destruction, though they are less useful against highly mobile or fire-resistant enemies.
Additional changes in update 1.9 include improvements to weapon mod icons, adjustments to Prosthetic Servos, refinements to Carnage Corpse bug piles, mission tuning updates, and revisions to side objectives. A full breakdown of changes is available in the official patch notes.
From a broader perspective, the update continues Starship Troopers: Extermination’s push toward more tactical variety rather than simple enemy scaling. By introducing environmental hazards, roaming elite enemies, and situational gear choices, the game increasingly emphasizes coordination and battlefield awareness over raw firepower.
Starship Troopers: Extermination is a 16-player cooperative first-person shooter featuring six playable classes, set in the universe of the classic sci-fi franchise. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X|S.
