Indie developer Volga Studios has just announced a free The Emperor’s Own alpha demo on Steam that players can try out. The demo features a three-hour-long gameplay where you can test out this non-linear, narrative-driven adventure game with RPG elements.
The Emperor’s Own is set in an alternate universe that is inspired by the Russian Empire at the dawn of the 19th century. Players take the role of an Imperial Secret Intelligence officer called Cornet Alexander Obolenskii, where he is sent on a mission to investigate rumors of the mysterious and supernatural events in the borderlands.
The game’s voiceover talent is provided by SIDE, which is the award-winning audio production company behind massively popular AAA titles like The Witcher 3, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, God of War 2018, and more.
Roman Naberushkin, Community Manager at Volga Studios had this to say,
We don’t want to sugarcoat anything in The Emperor’s Own. There won’t be any fantastical elements in our game – only authentic conflict that showcases the best and worst aspects of humanity. We can’t wait for players to try our alpha teaser and get a taste of the profound moral dilemmas that await them once our title is complete.
When you begin your adventure in The Emperor’s Own, the Slavomir Empire is just recovering from the brutal war with its southern neighbor. As you encounter a range of professionally-voiced, multidimensional characters including noble ladies, corrupt officials, firebrand rebels, unhinged psychopaths, and fellow officers, you will discover that another disastrous conflict may be on the horizon.
The game features a branching narrative where your decisions will have far-reaching consequences. You will have to decide carefully how your choices will create the path ahead as there is no going back.
