Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is Coming to PS5 After a Year of Xbox Exclusivity

Developer GSC Game World has officially announced that its post-apocalyptic survival game Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is finally coming to PS5 this year. While we do not have a confirmed release date for it, the developer has given a release window of later 2025 for both PS5 and PS5 Pro. Announced with a unique teaser, the short video shows in-game characters playing Stalker 2 inside the game, and then the screen cuts to the reveal.

Stalker 2 will fully leverage the PS5 console hardware and will offer advanced features like DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for deeper immersion. The developers are also currently working on additional technical advancements for the PS5 Pro version of the game. Additional technical details of how the game will utilize PS5 Pro’s hardware and a confirmed release date will be announced closer to its launch. Given it shares the same fall window, we can expect it to be around the 1-year mark after its Xbox Series X|S and PC release last year.

Stalker 2 is set in a fictional, reimagined Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. This zone was not formed during the initial Chornobyl Power Plant in 1986; rather, it was formed after a second explosion in 2006. This dangerous zone is now inhabited by mutants, hostile anomalies, deadly radiation, and an enigmatic yet anomalous energy. Now, this zone attracts Bounty Hunters due to its treasures and mysteries. You step into the game as Skif, a solitary Stalker who enters the zone after a series of unexpected events.

You must travel to the Heart of Chornobyl while gradually unraveling the secret of this world, while navigating the balance of power among factions, fighting against hostile enemies, and surviving in a constantly changing world. The game features a non-linear narrative, and every decision in the game will shape the outcome of the story. Stalker 2 has over three hours of scripted cutscenes, deep faction systems, and unpredictable encounters around every corner.

The game is developed with the power of Unreal Engine 5, and the developers visited the real Chornobyl Exclusion Zone for authenticity and to capture the atmosphere. This combines with photogrammetry technology and delivers an experience that no other post-apocalyptic title has managed to deliver. GSC Software completed the development of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl during a full-scale war with Russia. This shows the commitment of the developers towards the title.
