Beginner’s Guide – Marvel’s Avengers

Our Marvel’s Avengers Beginner’s Guide details some important tips and tricks that will be helpful for you if you are just starting the game.

Complete Optional Missions During Story Missions

The story missions in Marvel’s Avengers feature quite big and open spaces that you can explore freely while completing the main story mission. Unless the story mission comes with a timer, you can take your sweet time exploring the environments and completing smaller tasks here and there. Quite often, you will also get additional optional missions that will unlock bonus gear for you or simply give you more experience in the game

These optional missions do not affect the main story of the game but they are placed in locations where you can easily complete them while heading towards the main story objective and very times, do they actually require you to go out of the way for completion. These could range from taking down an especially hard enemy unit or unlocking a bonus room with some powerful gear in it. Make sure that you always complete any optional missions given to you while you are out completing story missions.

Always Consider Mission Modifiers and Adjust Your Loadout Accordingly

Mission Modifiers are special parameters that will greatly affect the gameplay during the story missions. These could range from harsh weather systems to an area affected by poison or radiation. If you are not equipped to tackle these Mission Modifiers, the mission might become a little difficult than it was actually intended to be. Before starting a mission, while you are selecting a mission on the War Table, it will show you any Mission Modifiers that might be active in the mission.

You must always look for these Mission Modifiers and head over to the loadout screen and equip gear that is more suitable to help you survive in those conditions. Doing so will not only allow you to be better prepared for the mission but will also give you a chance to counter some of the more powerful enemies in that area as certain enemies use elemental weapons that are more powerful than the normal weapons and proper gear can help you defend yourself against such weapons.

Always Have the Best Gear Equipped

Marvel’s Avengers brings its own gear system where you can make each superhero more powerful by finding and equipping gear in different slots. While they do not change the appearance of your heroes, they certainly modify the stats of the hero such as increased damage, more agility, better stealth, and so on. You find gear from tons of sources in the game such as random loot boxes, killing enemies, defeating mini-bosses, and gaining access to special puzzle rooms. If you find this too confusing, the game has a single button that allows you to equip the best gear item for each slot in an instant. Make sure that you always have the best possible gear equipped on your favorite superhero to make them more powerful

Bring Along Companions

During the singleplayer missions, you do not have to go alone. You can make the missions much easier and manageable if you add some AI companions to support you during the missions. You can add the AI companions from the mission’s screen where you see the details of your hero and mission briefing at the War Table. If you are having trouble completing a mission, simply, add up to three AI companions for the mission and they will help out in the world while you complete the tasks and they take care of the enemies.

Explore Each Area for Resources

Apart from gear, you will also get resources if you explore each map carefully. Resources are important in Marvel’s Avengers and you will need them for various purposes in the game. There are a different number of resources in the game so make sure that you collect whatever you find in the game. Resources have the same sources as that of gear. Break everything that you see in your path such as chests, boxes, and other random items lying around. You never know what might drop from them. Also, make sure to open any puzzle rooms that come in your way. They not only have the best gear but also give you resources.

Purchase New Abilities and Skills

Each superhero in Marvel’s Avengers comes with a basic set of abilities and skills however as you play more with them, they will level and unlock Skill Points. You can use the Skill Points and unlock even more skills and abilities for each of the heroes. It goes without saying that each superhero comes with its own unique skill tree. In addition, Skill Points are not universal. Each superhero has their own Skill Points when they level up. These unlock additional attacks, buff your existing attacks and abilities, and even make the superheroes more resistant to certain types of damage. Always purchase new abilities and skills.

Listen to Jarvis for Tips

After you have safely secured and activated Jarvis in the game, he will accompany you throughout the mission helping you out and guiding you at various aspects of the singleplayer campaign. However, Jarvis’ help is not limited to the main story only. Jarvis will also point out if there is something closeby for you to explore. It could be a stash of resources, an optional quest, or a tougher enemy that might drop some cool gear for you. Always listen to what Jarvis has to say while you are out exploring and you might stumble upon something really cool.

Practice Your Skills in the HARM Room

If you want to hone your skills with any of the superheroes in the game, your primary stop should be the HARM Room. It gives you access to a wide array of challenges where you can really put your skills to the test and prepare yourself for the main campaign of the game. Each hero comes with its own unique attacks, abilities, and playing style so if you want to practice with a new hero, instead of jumping in the main story, complete a few HARM Room challenges and you will be familiar with the hero’s playstyle, attacks, and abilities. It will really help you get better in combat if you suffer during the main story missions.

  1. Can you play with a less than 4 character squad? I can see how to choose companions but if I don’t select one the computer assigns one itself. Can I leave slots empty?
