Beginner’s Guide – Mafia: Definitive Edition

Our Mafia: Definitive Edition Beginner’s Guide will help you get better in the game quickly and also share some tips and tricks for tackling different scenarios in the game.

Choose a Difficulty That Suits You

Mafia: Definitive Edition is certainly not an easy game, and many in-game mechanics make the game hard in different scenarios. While the developer has added a new game mode called Classic Difficulty which is the real, authentic way of experiencing this classic game but it also means that the game is much harder to play. If you find this difficulty too hard, simply, switch to a lower difficulty and you should be good to go. However, if you are looking for certain trophies/achievements, you will still need to play on the Classic difficulty.

Look for Health Stations

One of your major concerns while Mafia: Definitive Editions will always remain your health and since the game does not feature auto-recovery of health, you will be required to look for alternate sources of health regeneration. All is not gloom-and-doom in the game because if your health drops to critical levels, you can recover a small bit of health but if you want to fully recover your health, you must find a Health Station.

The small auto-recovery will help you in a lot of situations as it sort of gives you a second chance at life because it will absorb another bullet and save you from one big crash while driving. However, you must try to find a Health Station quickly if your health drops down to critical levels. These Health Stations are scattered all over the levels so all you need to do is explore the area and get your health back up before you are dead.

Mix and Match Your Weapons

Chances are that you will spend most of your time firing at enemies with your pistol in the game but there are a lot of heavy weapons in the game as well that provide a serious punch. There are shotguns and rifles that can really give you an edge in the battle. Every time, your bullet hits an enemy, they are stunned giving you a chance to quickly finish them off before they start firing back so make sure that you finish what you start quickly or risk getting shot again.

This goes without saying but heavy weapons will cause enemies to remained stunned for a much longer period of time rather than standard weapons. Some of the heavy weapons also cause enemies to react in pain giving you a slight window to kill them quickly as well. Another trick that works is charging right into a fight that causes the enemies to flee back and retreat in order to find a new suitable place to fight back. Their shots are disgruntled during this phase and they rarely hit you. Mix and match your weapons and fighting techniques and always keep an upper hand over your enemies in fights. Use cover and if there is no cover, you can simply duck to avoid gunfire as well.

Visit the Armory Regularly

Armory is the most important place for you, and you will find it in Vinnie’s Workshop. Every time you visit Vinnie’s Workshop, make sure that you always visit the armory and stock up on supplies. You must always have the best weapons and plenty of ammo with you. Make sure that you keep at least one heavy weapon with you along with your pistol. Having a good amount of ammo is always helpful in the game.

Try to Avoid Police While Driving Around

Driving is a really fun mechanic in Mafia: Definitive Edition and you will drive some really cool, vintage cars in the game. However, if you are not careful, driving can become your biggest enemy in the game. While driving around, you must be aware of your speed and never Overspeed. This will cause the police to follow you and initiate a chase. To watch out for your speed, you can always turn on the speed limiter which limits your car speed inside the allowed limit to ensure that you do not break any laws no matter how hard you try.

If due to some reason, you still manage to get the cops to chase you, your best bet at escaping them is longer roads and hitting those high numbers on your speedometer. Unlike most games where switching to side lanes and tight corners can save you from police chases, Mafia: Definitive Edition is not like that. Your only friend in police chases here is top speed and you can only achieve them on longer roads since vintage cars were not really high on horsepower.
