Interview: Artificial Core – Developer of Core Punk

Artificial Core Interview

Artificial Core is a video game developer and publisher based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Although based in the Netherlands, its core development team is based in Kiev, Ukraine and has over 100 talented developers from all departments of the industry. Their debut title Corepunk is currently the studio’s full focus as it is slated to release later this year. We got ourselves an interview opportunity with Artificial Core and we got to ask some questions about their upcoming project, studio’s vision, and their future plans. Answering our questions here is Eugene Kiver and he is the producer of Corepunk. You can check out the complete interview below:

GH: Tell us a little bit about Artificial Core and its vision.

EK: Artificial Core is a team of inspired people who love games and know how to make them. Our main office is in Amsterdam, Netherlands, all the business processes, marketing, and legal support are focused there. All the development happens in Kyiv, Ukraine.

GH: Corepunk is Artificial Core’s first project if I am not mistaken. What was the studio’s inspiration behind opting for an MMORPG title as its first project?

EK: Yes, it’s our first project. Our team plays games a lot, and it has become a goal to make our own MMORPG by keeping in mind all the traditions of this genre. It’s both a challenge and a passion for us.

GH: Ever since the official reveal of Corepunk, I’ve mostly seen fans comparing Corepunk with Dota 2 specifically in terms of abilities and UI. Was Dota 2 ever an inspiration behind any of the in-game mechanics?

EK: We were inspired by various games and genres, including MOBA games. It would be inaccurate to say that we were inspired by one specific project.

GH: Corepunk will feature story missions that can be played by players in any order. Does this mean that players will get a different story based on their choice of story missions played first or the missions will then lead to completely different missions locking out certain missions?

EK: Each location will have its own set of quests, and each part of them will reveal the global world history. Depending on your walkthrough of the game and locations you’ve visited, you will be able to discover one or another part of the overall plot. By reaching the maximum level, all players will find out the whole ending, with possible variations, depending on how you played the game.

GH: Will Corepunk offer live-service events such as timed raids, seasonal events and more?

EK: We don’t have such plans, at least not after the nearest beta tests.

GH: We’ve seen the player traversing the world of Corepunk at the back of a mount. Will there be many different types of mounts in the game or there will be a single mount for all players?

EK: Yes, there will be different types of mounts, which will help you explore the Corepunk world.

GH: At this point, Corepunk is only announced for PC but with the growing trend of MMORPGs releasing on consoles, do you see Corepunk making its way to consoles as well?

EK: We are definitely thinking about other platforms, but so far, focused on PC only.

GH: If you guys decide on a console release; would Nintendo Switch be a platform that you would like to see Corepunk on?

EK: We are definitely thinking about other platforms, but so far, focused on PC only.

GH: What can we expect from the Open Beta of Corepunk?

EK: We don’t want to give any promises right now. It’s important for us to make a good quality game where players can enjoy spending their time and it is our top priority. We certainly will explain later what you can expect to find in the game before the start of open beta. And then to decide whether to play it or not. But now we are more concentrated on actual development.

GH: Will Artificial Core eventually branch out to other genres as well in the future?

EK: We don’t want to plan ahead. In the future, it may happen or may not 🙂

Artificial Core’s first project Core Punk is currently in development and is slated to release later this year. You can check out our coverage of Core Punk to know more details about the game and how the development of the game is progressing.
