In this Control Side Quests Guide, we will detail all the side quests found in the game and how you can complete them. Side quests are small missions that set you out to complete an objective with the description of the task in hand.

Many of the side quests in the game need to be discovered first, these are well hidden in places that can easily be missed and overlooked. Our guide will detail how you can get to all of the side quests and complete them.

Control Side Quests Guide

Below we have detailed all the side quests that you can find in Control.

Side Quest #1 – A Merry Chase

This side quest can be unlocked when you are in the “Directorial Override” mission. This is a small side quest which can be found when you are in the hallway with the bridges. To your left, you will find a room that will have the red flashing light. Enter this room, which will then transform the room into floating platforms as the ground opens up beneath you.

At the end of this area, you will find a horse riding toy. Go to this horse toy and interact with it, and this will take you to a new area where you need to fight enemies. Once you are done, the task will be completed.

Side Quest #2 – What a Mess: Burn the Trash

This side quest is also found in the “Directorial Override” mission, where you will unlock it when you talk to the janitor. The task here is to burn away the waste barrels in the area. There are six waste barrels in the power plant that you need to destroy.

Head to the power plant and you will come across an area with a large furnace. The barrels are all contained in this large area, so all you have to do is move the barrels into the furnace with your telekinesis.

Side Quest #3 – What a Mess: Clear the Clog

To get this side quest, you need to visit the board in the Janitor’s Office so you can activate this side quest. The Janitor’s Office is in the Maintenance sector of the game. Get to the board and pick up this task.

Once you activate the side quest, you will now need to go to the Pumping Station in the Maintenance sector where you will find a clog that needs to be cleared. You will also find two locked doors here, with the red light on them indicating that they are locked. To unlock the doors, you need a power source to plug in the two consoles here.

Climb the platform on the right, which will take you past the locked double door, just behind the doors on the left you will find a power source and place it on the console right in front. This will open a door revealing another battery that you need to bring back to the first area. Plug the batteries in both the consoles of the first area and the door on the top right of the stairs will open up. Interact with the pump which will then ask you to go down to clear the clog. The mission is completed when you clear the clog.

Side Quest #4 – What a Mess: Talk to the Plants

This side quest can also be picked from the board in the Janitor’s Office. This task only becomes available after you have cleared the clog side quest. This is a pretty straightforward task where you have to locate all the plants in the Central Research and interact with them.

There are six plants in total that you need to locate. To get the first one, you need to go the ground floor and go near the restrooms. The second one is quite close to the previous location where it will be up the stairs that lead you up. To get to the third plant, you need to go to the area that is on the opposite side of the shelter.

The fourth plant can be found in the top-level, followed by the fifth plant that can be found near the pathway that will be blocked, and that goes straight to Ritual Division. The sixth and last plant is upstairs.

Side Quest #5 – What a Mess: Clear the Mold

This side quest can be picked up from the board in Janitor’s Office. The quest here requires you to clear the mold that has infested the Medical Wing area.  When you reach the Medical Wing, you will need to destroy the clots that are the main problem here.

There are six clots that you need to destroy here. These clots easy to identify and are usually found hanging from walls and over ceilings.

Side Quest #6 – What a Mess: Even More Mold

This side quest can be found from the board in the Janitor’s Office. In this mission, you have to clear some more Mold, but this time in the NSC Coolant Pumps area. Make your way in this area and take out the enemies that are occupying this space.

Once done, you can start by destroying the mold that infests this area. Look around for the sources of mold and shoot down each of them to complete the side quest.

Side Quest #7 – What a Mess: Take a Break

This is the last What a Mess side quest that you will get from the board in the Janitor’s Office. The task here is simple, where you have to sit on the couch and relax after all the hard work cleaning the areas. This is also the part where you are rewarded with the janitor outfit.

Side Quest #8 – Mr. Tommasi

This side quest takes leads you to a boss fight where you have to defeat Tommasi boss. To start this quest, you need to talk to Emily Pope after completing a few of her other quests.

Emily Pope wants you to hunt and kill Tommasi. This boss can be found in Turntable. Go to this area and fight this boss. If you want to know the best way to defeat Tommasi, read our Control Boss Fights Guide.

Side Quest #9 – A Matter of Time

This side quest can be found in the Logistics of the Containment sector of the game. Travel to the Logistics and enter the door on the left. You can hear a man calling for help in this door. You need to take the stairs up and go talk to the man.

From there, you need to pull the lightbulb string three times to teleport you into the motel. The puzzle here is to set the clocks accordingly with the clock that is on the front desk. Press the ringer bell on the reception and then go to each room to set the time. Once done, you will get a key that you need to take from the front desk.

With the key in hand, go to the entrance of the motel and teleport back. You will now find yourself in the Sealed Threshold Corridor where you need to locate the medic and talk to him. With the help of medic, progress along the way as he opens the doors for you, and you fight the enemies that you encounter in return. Once you have safely escorted the medic, go back to the man you found in the Logistics area.

The man will now be an enemy that you have to fight. Once he is defeated, you need to talk to the medic to complete the quest.

Side Quest #10 – The Enemy Within

This side quest begins shortly after you complete the previous quest. This is the quest where you have to defeat the Anchor boss in the game. Head to the Sealed Threshold Corridor and engage in the fight against the Anchor.

Once you have defeated the Anchor, you will be rewarded with items.

Side Quest #11 – Self-Reflection

This side quest leads you to the option boss fight with esseJ. To begin the quest, you need to find a note that can be found near Logistics and Security. Now you need to go to the Research sector and then go from the Ritual Division to the Mirror Testing Lab.

To progress, you need to solve a puzzle here where you need to figure out a way to unlock windows on the two sides of the chamber. The left side of the chamber requires you to close the first two windows and let the third one stay open. The right side of the chamber is the opposite of the left side.

Side Quest #12 – Old Friends

This side quest can be found in the Central Executive area, where it is given to you by Arish. The task here is to meet and collect six pouches from the six enemies. Each of the enemies has a group of other attackers that you have to eliminate. The enemies and their locations are listed below:
