Capcom has confirmed that the RE Engine can work with the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. The company mentioned that the engine was designed so that it could be tweaked for the upcoming next-generation of consoles. You can expect the engine to with Xbox Anaconda as well keeping in mind that the high-end console is going to be based on the same architecture as the little brother.
Capcom talked about the RE Engine in the recent Financial Results Briefing and the following is what the company had to say in this regard:
The games we developed using the RE Engine during this current hardware generation have received critical acclaim, and from the early stages of building this engine, we kept the ability to augment it for next-generation development in mind. As such, we view the RE Engine as one of our strengths that will contribute to next-generation game creation.
Capcom has also confirmed that multiple games are being developed for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. While the company did not provide any details we know that the games will be based on the RE Engine and will release for the PS5 and next Xbox. The following is what Capcom had to say in this regard:
While we are unable to comment on the specific number of titles or release windows, there are numerous titles currently being developed internally with the RE Engine.
What we can take away from this is that Capcom is working on more than one title and that is very exciting indeed. Matt Walker recently talked about how Capcom is interested in making DmC: Devil May Cry 2, a sequel to DmC by Ninja Theory. He talked about how he wanted the same developer working on the new game. Ninja Theory is now owned by Microsoft so that does complicate matters but that does not mean that Microsoft is not open to the idea.
Let us know what you think about Capcom working on multiple games for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett that are based on the RE Engine and which games you would like to play on the upcoming consoles.
