Solo developer Martin Grysbæk is preparing to launch Greed Forest TD, a tower defense roguelite that puts an unusual emphasis on freely constructing mazes, combining towers, and adapting defenses as the forest becomes increasingly dangerous. The game is currently available with a free demo on Steam ahead of its November 18, 2026 release.
Rather than relying on predefined tower-defense lanes, Greed Forest TD gives players considerable freedom over how they shape their defenses. The basic loop is divided between building during the day and surviving enemy attacks at night. Players can construct towers and gold extractors, arrange them into mazes, upgrade their defenses, and then trigger the next wave when they are ready.
The game’s economy is tied directly to its combat system. Players take control of Buildy, a small machine tasked with extracting the forest’s riches, while an emitter attracts creatures toward the player’s defenses. Increasing the emitter’s signal can bring in stronger enemies while also increasing the potential rewards, creating a risk-and-reward layer on top of the traditional tower-defense formula.
There is also considerable room for experimentation. Towers can be upgraded with different attack effects and combined into larger structures, while spells can either be set to autocast or manually triggered during a battle. On siege maps, enemies can attack the player’s structures directly, forcing players to adapt their layouts rather than simply watching enemies follow a predetermined route. Buildy can also use Spirit Link to channel the power of towers directly into combat.
Roguelite elements further separate Greed Forest TD from a conventional tower defense game. Runs progress through different maps while players unlock new spells and powerups, and endless mode provides an additional way to push a build beyond the normal encounters. The Steam version also includes a level editor, giving players another avenue to experiment with the game’s maze-building systems.
The project has been evolving through its playable demo ahead of launch. In an August Steam community update, Grysbæk highlighted new features and quality-of-life improvements, including enemy previews showing upcoming abilities, a simplified menu for upgrading combined towers, and map challenges that help unlock additional towers, spells, and powerups.
Grysbæk has also described Greed Forest TD as a solo-developed project and has been actively seeking feedback from players trying the demo. In a September post about the game, the developer specifically asked players who stopped playing after the first few maps to explain why, with the goal of addressing those issues before the full release.
Greed Forest TD is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam on November 18, 2026. The game supports single-player play and currently has a free demo available for players who want to try its maze-building and tower-combination systems before launch.
