Meccha Chameleon Beginner’s Guide - Top Tips for New Players

This Meccha Chameleon Beginner’s Guide details tips and tricks for new players who are just starting the game. Meccha Chameleon is a multiplayer hide-and-seek game where players blend into their surroundings while hunters try to find them before time runs out. Learning how to camouflage properly, use the painting system, and understand each game mode makes surviving much easier.

Beginner’s Guide – Meccha Chameleon

The following are some tips and tricks that you can use to improve your gameplay.

Getting Started with Dedicated Servers

Meccha Chameleon allows you to play on dedicated servers hosted by other players. From the server browser, choose the region closest to where you live to get the best connection and lower ping.

The game also supports custom maps downloaded from the Steam Workshop. These maps work just like the standard ones but offer different environments to play in. If you only want to play with friends or test things on your own, creating a private server is the easiest option.

Creating a Private Server

Starting your own private server is straightforward. Once you enter the game, create a private lobby and choose the settings you want before starting the match. This lets you freely explore maps, practice mechanics, or invite friends without joining public games.

Understanding How the Game Works

Every match begins in a lobby where players choose whether they want to become a hunter or remain regular player. Standing in the center increases your chance of becoming a hunter, while standing outside keeps you in the player group. If too many people select the same role, the game randomly decides who becomes the hunter.

There are three available game modes. The standard mode features hunters against hidden players, while Double changes the team setup. Infection is the most exciting mode because every player caught by a hunter immediately joins the hunter team. As more players get infected, finding safe hiding spots becomes much more difficult.

The objective is simple. Hidden players must blend into the environment and survive until the timer expires. Hunters are equipped with weapons and must eliminate every hidden player before time runs out.

Using Different Poses

Changing your pose is one of the most important ways to hide effectively. Press R to cycle through different poses until you find one that matches your surroundings.

You can also crawl into smaller spaces by using the movement controls, allowing you to fit into areas that are difficult for hunters to inspect. Picking the right pose often makes your camouflage much more convincing.

Learning the Basic Movement Controls

Movement is one of the most useful survival tools in Meccha Chameleon. Your character can climb onto walls by holding the jump key while facing them. Once attached, you can move upward or downward and even detach whenever you want. This makes it possible to reach hiding places that many players overlook.

Learning the Painting System

Painting allows your character to match nearby objects and surfaces. Press F to enter Paint Mode, where you can begin customizing your appearance.

Adjust the brush size using the mouse controls until it fits the area you are painting. To copy a color from the environment, aim at the surface and sample it before applying it to your body. Matching nearby colors helps you blend into the map and makes it harder for hunters to notice you.

Keep in mind that what you see is slightly different from what hunters see during the match. A camouflage pattern that looks perfect from your perspective may still have visible flaws from another angle, so always check your appearance carefully.

Although a simple paint job can sometimes work, experienced hunters often fire at suspicious locations, so relying on color alone is not always enough.

Improving Your Camouflage

Once you understand the basics, you can create much more convincing disguises by combining different colors instead of covering your entire body with a single shade. The scroll wheel lets you move the cursor more precisely, making it easier to paint smaller sections. You can also shrink the brush size to work on detailed areas like your arms or legs.

If you make a mistake, switch to the white paint to erase unwanted sections before repainting them. Taking your time with the details usually produces a cleaner result that blends naturally with nearby objects.

The game also includes an X-Ray view, which helps you inspect your character from different angles. This makes it easier to spot areas that still need adjustment before the round begins.

Hiding on the Ceiling

Some maps allow you to climb or position yourself near the ceiling, creating unusual hiding spots that hunters may overlook.

After reaching a suitable location, enter Paint Mode and carefully match the ceiling’s colors and patterns. You can even add extra details using nearby textures to make your disguise feel more complete. Choosing an unexpected position often works better than hiding in obvious places.

Be Careful When Hiding Inside Objects

While hiding inside objects can seem like a good idea, you should avoid pushing your character too far into them.

If too much of your body becomes buried inside another object, the game may warn you and eventually reveal your position. Instead of clipping into objects, try positioning yourself naturally while using the painting system to complete the disguise.

Popular Hiding Strategies

Players generally rely on three different camouflage styles during matches.

  • The first method is using shadows, where you simply blend into dark areas using matching colors. This is quick and often works well if hunters are moving quickly through the map.
  • The second method is pretending to be another object. By copying the colors of nearby decorations like balloons or walls, your character looks like part of the environment instead of another player.
  • The final method is creating a detailed camouflage pattern. Some players spend extra time painting different body parts separately so every section matches nearby textures. Although this takes longer, it often produces the most convincing disguise.

Playing as the Hunter

To become a hunter, stand in the center of the lobby before the match starts. If multiple players want the role, the game randomly selects who becomes the hunter.

As a hunter, your job is to search every corner of the map and eliminate hidden players. Since experienced players can create very convincing disguises, checking unusual locations and suspicious objects is often the key to finding them.

Tips for Surviving as a Player

Winning as a hidden player depends on choosing a smart location and blending into the environment as naturally as possible. Instead of standing in open spaces, look for objects or corners where your pose matches the surroundings.

During Infection mode, surviving becomes much harder because every eliminated player joins the hunters. The longer the match continues, the more people are searching for you, so staying hidden early in the game is especially important.

Communication Features

The game also includes a built-in chat system. Press T during a match to communicate with other players whenever chatting is available.
