Developed by Skyward Entertainment and published by Headup, Second Stone is an upcoming story-driven adventure game for PC that blends classic platforming with action-RPG mechanics, following a young treasure hunter on a journey across two parallel worlds.
Players take on the role of Shiren, a treasure hunter from Arimaya Village who sets out to uncover the truth behind a mysterious hidden dark world. The game features a unique ability that allows players to jump seamlessly between two fully playable parallel worlds, a vibrant, life-filled overworld and a shadowy mirror version of it packed with danger and monsters. The contrast between the two isn’t just visual. Each world shapes the tone of the adventure, with the darker realm leaning into mystery and threat while the brighter one offers lush environments and memorable characters to interact with.
The combat takes the familiar bones of a platformer and layers on swords, spells, loot, and skill trees. The developers describe it as imagining your favorite platformer with full RPG systems bolted on, and the ambition here is clear. Progression runs through the Astral Tablet skill tree, which players combine with weapons, gear, and the game’s standout Manastone system to build out their character however they like.
Manastones are elemental gems that attach to weapons and armor to unlock different effects and abilities. A Rimestone on a bow introduces ice-based ranged attacks, while a Sparkstone on a magic armlet steers the build toward storm magic. Attach an Emberstone to your armor, and you gain resistance to fire damage. What makes the system deeper than a standard elemental upgrade mechanic is the fusion layer on top of it.
Excess Manastones can be merged to level up the ones already equipped, which progressively unlocks more complex and powerful versions of each effect. A basic Emberstone might shoot a single fireball, but a fully upgraded Radiant Emberstone transforms that same spell into a three-projectile volley that homes in on enemies and detonates like a cluster bomb on impact. The developers claim the system supports thousands of distinct character builds.
Beyond the open interconnected world, Second Stone also features large temples that shift the gameplay into roguelike territory. These procedurally generated dungeons challenge players to build the best possible loadout from whatever they find inside before facing off against demanding Depth Bosses.
Second Stone is heading to PC via Steam, with no release date announced yet. Players interested in jumping into the game when it comes out can hop over to its official Steam page and add it to their wishlist.
