This Crimson Desert Reed Devil Boss Battle Guide details all the tips and tricks you need to defeat Reed Devil in the game. The Reed Devil is one of the hardest fights you will face in Crimson Desert, and struggling here is completely normal. This battle shows up in Chapter 3 during “The Face Behind the Mask,” and it really tests your skills and timing. The fight can feel overwhelming at first, but with the right approach, it becomes much more manageable.
Reed Devil Boss Battle Guide – Crimson Desert
Before entering this battle, your main focus should be survival. You will need a huge amount of healing items because this fight lasts for a long time and deals constant damage. Try to carry enough food to restore your health many times over. Cooking your own meals is usually the better option since it saves money, but if you are already rich in-game, buying food works too.
Palmar pills are also very important. These items can revive you with some health, which can save you. Bringing four of them is usually enough, but having extra gives you more chances. You can craft them using 15x herbs and 2x water once you find the recipe in the Shadow Whisper cave near Hernand Castle.
Upgrading your armor will also help a lot. If you’ve unlocked rewards from the Hernand Contribution Shop, grab the best gear available. After defeating Knight Matthias earlier, you should also have access to his armor set. Don’t forget to refine your gear at the blacksmith using materials like iron and copper. Even small upgrades can make a noticeable difference in this fight.
For weapons, using a sword and shield is the safest choice. Blocking is much more reliable than dodging here, especially because the Reed Devil attacks very quickly. If you still have the Sword of the Lord from the previous boss, it is a great option. Upgrading your weapon and shield will also improve your chances.
Your skills matter too. Increasing stamina is very useful because it allows you to block longer. Some abilities that help you move forward while attacking, like Forward Slash, are also useful, as they let you hit the boss quickly before he disappears again. You can also use Stab or Evasive Roll.
Right before the main fight, you will face a large number of enemies during the “Seed of Unease” part. It is best to ignore them completely. Fighting them only wastes your health and resources. Just run straight ahead until you reach the top area where they stop following you.
Before starting the boss fight, use the nearby grindstone to boost your weapon damage. This small step can give you an advantage right at the beginning.
How to Beat the Boss
This Boss Fight takes place in three phases:
Phase One
In the first phase, the Reed Devil keeps moving back, vanishing, then rushing toward you with very fast attacks. These strikes are difficult to dodge, so holding up your shield is the safest option. If your stamina is high enough, you can survive the full attack sequence without getting hit too much.
After finishing his combo, he briefly pauses and puts his weapon away. This is your chance to attack. Stay close to him so you can quickly land a few hits before he disappears again. If you keep dealing damage, you will eventually fill his stagger bar, which will leave him open for a long time.
Be careful of one special attack where he charges forward with a glowing effect. This move cannot be blocked and will knock you down, so always dodge to the side when you see it coming. During this phase, you may also get the chance to learn and use this move yourself.
Phase Two
The second phase is less about fighting and more about completing a task. Instead of attacking the boss directly, you need to destroy four totems placed around the area.
Trying to fight the boss and his minions here is not worth it. You will get overwhelmed quickly. Instead, run straight to each totem and destroy it with a strong attack. Keep moving from one to the next without stopping. You will take damage during this part, so be ready to heal while moving.
Once all the totems are destroyed, the fight will move to the final phase.
Phase Three
The last phase is similar to the first, but with a few new dangers. Stick to the same strategy: stay close, block his fast attacks, and strike when he pauses. Patience is still the key here.
However, he now has a ranged attack where he sends multiple fiery projectiles toward you. These cannot be blocked, so you will need to dodge sideways to avoid them. Staying close to him reduces the chances of him using this move, so try not to create too much distance.
At some point, he might also summon a clone, which can make things messy. The best approach is to ignore the clone and focus on the main boss. If you keep the pressure on him, you can finish the fight before things get too chaotic.
