Fighting Fantasy Classics Volume 1 is out now on Nintendo Switch, bringing four classic interactive gamebooks to Nintendo’s flagship console. Developed by veteran Melbourne-based studio Tin Man Games, the collection adapts iconic titles written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone during the 1980s, preserving their choose-your-own-adventure structure while modernizing them for digital play.
The release includes The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, The Citadel of Chaos, The Forest of Doom, and Starship Traveller. Each adventure places players in control of the narrative, with progression shaped by decisions, dice-based combat, inventory management, and character statistics. Unlike traditional video games, success depends on judgment, risk-taking, and luck, with failure often leading to permanent consequences.

Tin Man Games’ remaster adds a suite of quality-of-life features designed for console play. An automated Adventure Sheet tracks player stats, inventory, and knowledge, while unlimited bookmarks allow difficult sections to be revisited. A built-in map system helps players keep track of explored locations across multiple playthroughs, and an optional “Free Read” mode lets players experience the stories without challenge restrictions.
The collection also includes original artwork from illustrators such as Iain McCaig, Russ Nicholson, Malcolm Barter, and Ian Miller, viewable through a dedicated gallery. A newly composed atmospheric soundtrack accompanies the adventures, and additional digital books covering the history of Fighting Fantasy and its rule systems are included as bonus content.
Originally published in the 1980s and 1990s, the Fighting Fantasy series helped define interactive fiction for a generation, blending tabletop role-playing mechanics with solo storytelling. Tin Man Games has previously brought the series to PC and mobile platforms, and the Nintendo Switch release makes these adventures accessible to a wider console audience.
Fighting Fantasy Classics Volume 1 is available now on Nintendo Switch for $14.99, with future volumes planned for release at a later date.
