D3 Publisher and developer Sandlot have finally announced their latest title in the series, Earth Defense Force 6, and it will be launching next year in 2021 in Japan. With the announcement, however, there is no confirmation of a release date, nor the platforms that will be receiving the game.
The announcement was made over at the Sony blog post, which suggests that it may be launching on PlayStation 5 if it releases next year. This is because the PS5 will have already released by then, and would likely see the game release on it.
A new website for the game is live as well, which comes with a teaser that says “Coming in 2021.” The website also contained the screenshots of the game, which look quite interesting.
The last game in the series, Earth Defense Force 5 was released back in 2017 and was quite the success selling over 500,000 units in Japan. The game depicted humanity that was faced against the invasion of an unknown alien life-form under a new world view. The newly announced game though will have more details to come in the coming months. All we know is that it is a sequel that is set several years after the ending of Earth Defense Force 5.

2024. Humanity won the war against the unknown invaders that had lasted two years. The Primers left and silence returned to the Earth. However, the total human population was reduced to 10 percent. Three years later, in 2027. Humanity faced another major problem. Many of the aliens (Colonists) that the Primers had deployed into battle were left behind on Earth.
The Colonists formed groups and occupied cities to survive. They have settled on Earth. Humanity and the aliens frequently collided. And through repeated quarrels, both sides faced damages. The two races living on Earth grew tired of each other…
