PlayStation Ends the Cross/Ex Debate Once and for All

PlayStation Cross

PlayStation has officially dropped the hammer on the Cross and X debate which has been going on since ever. The official PlayStation UK Twitter account tweeted on the weekend the names of the four buttons on its signature controller and it turns out the X is called a Cross and not an ‘Ex’. If you have been calling it an X (like me) throughout your life, you have been wrong all this time.

The PlayStation controller layout has been the same ever since the PlayStation 1 was released. The four buttons on the right side of the controller have also been same ever since with no changes whatsoever. The three top buttons are pretty straightforward and simple because each of them is represented by a shape which is clearly a shape. There’s Circle, Triangle, and Square. This is pretty simple and no debates ever rose on these keys.

However, the star of controversies has the bottom-most key of the PlayStation controller which is just ‘X’. Now X is also a shape as well a letter in the English alphabets. Naturally, people have been calling it both since there has been no official word by Sony before that this specific button represents the shape or the alphabet. However, Sony has now made it very clear with their latest tweet which you can check out below.

As you can see, this was not a direct tweet by PlayStation UK and rather a reply to another Twitter User Arby who was debating on the same issue. So there you have it. The fourth and the bottom-most button on the PlayStation controller is officially called ‘Cross’ so it joins the remaining shapes club and not the alphabetical club.

Coming to the topic, Sony earlier announced some brand new Dualshock 4 colors which are arriving soon. Make sure you check them out as they are arriving soon and they look amazing.
