The Whims of the Gods Receives New Images and Soundtrack Details Ahead of Gamescom and PAX West

The Whims of the Gods Soundtrack

Indie developer PJ Games is aiming for Gamescom and PAX West with its latest cooperative city-builder, The Whims of the Gods. Ahead of these major gaming events, the developer has released new screenshots and announced that composer Patryk Scelina will be joining the project. Known for his work on titles like Kao the Kangaroo and GORD, Scelina will craft a soundtrack for The Whims of the Gods that matches the game’s epic themes and ancient settings.

In The Whims of the Gods, players will have the opportunity to step into the shoes of godlike rulers overseeing the growth and development of a thriving ancient city. The game features a modern twist on the classic god-game genre, emphasizing cooperative gameplay between two players. Each player can choose their responsibilities and collaborate on achieving shared goals, such as expanding the population or advancing technology. This online co-op gameplay promises a fresh experience for fans of city-building and strategy games.

Mikołaj Pawłowski, CEO of PJ Games, expressed his gratitude to the community, saying:

We’d like to thank all players who have already wishlisted The Whims of the Gods. The initial reaction to our announcement was great, and we found that many players miss godlike strategy games. We grew up on titles like Populus and Black and White. We can’t wait to hear more feedback from gamers at Gamescom and PAX. So if you are in Cologne or Seattle, come and receive your godly tribute!”

The new screenshots provide a glimpse into the vibrant world of The Whims of the Gods, showcasing the game’s detailed environments and character designs. Meanwhile, the newly announced soundtrack by Patryk Scelina aims to blend modern musical elements with ethnic sounds, using traditional instruments from Mesoamerican cultures. The soundtrack includes Aztec flutes, the death whistle, and ethnic drums and mallets, producing a sound reminiscent of marimbas but with a raw and earthy tone.

Attendees at Gamescom and PAX West can experience The Whims of the Gods firsthand, with playtesting available at Gamescom (Hall 10.2, booth E-069) and PAX West (at Fundacja Indie Games Polska booth, next to the PAX Rising Showcase).
