2020 has just started and Square Enix has delayed two of its highly-anticipated titles by several months. Both Marvel’s Avengers and Final Fantasy 7 Remake have been delayed by Square Enix and their new release dates have put them dangerously close to the release of next-gen consoles. We know that Xbox Series X and PS5 are set to launch in Holiday 2020.
The new release date for Marvel’s Avengers is September 4, 2020, while Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been pushed to April 10, 2020. Final Fantasy 7 Remake still has plenty of gap until the release of next-gen consoles but Marvel’s Avengers is a little too close to their release now. The developer shared the news of the delays on their respective Twitter accounts where fans were naturally not happy about the delay.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is still just a month delayed from its previous release date of March 3, 2020, but fans will now need to wait almost three more months before they can play the game. In the message, Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg, Co-Heads of Studio at Crystal Dynamics explained that the main reason for this delay is the requirement of additional time for fine-polishing and ensuring that the game is up to the high standards that fans expect and deserve.

The news of Final Fantasy 7 Remake being delayed was released by Yoshinori Kitase, Producer of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. He said:
We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on. In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020.
We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.
It is always good to deliver a solid and stable video game to fans rather than delivering a half-baked video game. We all remember what happened to Anthem last year which turned out to be the biggest disaster of 2019. Square Enix can take its time to make Marvel’s Avengers and Final Fantasy 7 Remake better and ensure that the launch versions are in their best shape. However, we would love to see Marvel’s Avengers release on next-gen as well now that it is launching so close to their release.
Which Square Enix title are you looking forward to playing this year? Would you prefer playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake or would you rather wait for Marvel’s Avengers? Let us know in the comments section below.
