The PS5 is one of the most anticipated consoles that is coming out in a year or so. While we have got hints regarding what the PS5 will be capable of we did not have a lot of information regarding the console until now. Information regarding the price, specifications and games for the PS5 have been leaked and here we are going to look into all of these plus the PSVR2 and the DualShock 5 controller.

Update: PS5’s chief architect Mark Cerny has confirmed that the upcoming PS5 will be backward compatible with the PS4. You will be able to play all your PS4 games on the upcoming console. He also mentioned that the PSVR will work with the new console as well. Cerny confirmed that the upcoming PS5 will use physical disks as well.

He also mentioned that the console will be powered by AMD hardware and will use a 3rd generation AMD Ryzen chip that has 8 cores and 16 threads. Other features and specifications of the PS5 include ray-tracing, 3D audio and 8K support. Cerny mentioned that the PS5 will have an SSD and even though he did not provide a release date for the product he mentioned that the PS5 will not release in 2019.

Specifications And Features

According to the PS5 leak, the console will come with a 7nm ryzen processor that has 8 core 16 threads. The speeds of the chip are not known right now but what we do know is that the graphics part will be based on 7nm Navi architecture. The PS5 will be capable of delivering 14 TFLOPs of computing power and this will make it much faster than the Xbox One X and Google Stadia.

The leak mentions that not only will the PS5 be powerful keeping in mind the specifications of the console but it will also be power efficient. This is something that I am interested in checking out. The leaker mentioned that Sony is working with AMD in order to deliver Ray Tracing for the PS5 but this is not something that the companies are focusing on. Both companies will primarily be focusing on 4K and VR.

The leaker added that the specifications of the PS5 include 24GB GDDR6 + 4BG DD4 for the OS. He mentioned that the dev kits of the PS5 that they have come with 32GB in total, which is very impressive indeed. He also mentioned that the PS5 will come with 2TB of HDD and will be able to upscale to 8K. We are not sure whether this is true for gaming or just content streaming but it is most likely limited to Netflix and other video streaming apps.

All things considered, the specifications of the PS5 are rather impressive for a console. It could have performance similar to modern PCs. That seems to be what Sony is aiming for with the PS5. Other features that you might be interested in learning about include backward compatibility and PS Plus Premium which will be launched in Beta and will allow users to create their own servers. The console will have a disk drive but you will be able to download games digitally as well.

Launch Games And Exclusive Titles

The leaker mentioned that Sony is spending a lot of money in order to keep games exclusive to the PS5 for at least a month. If that is the case then these are most likely timed exclusive games rather than exclusive to the PS5. The following are the exclusive games that were mentioned that are going to release for the PS5:

  • Gran Turismo 7 (VR)
  • PUBG Remaster 4K F2P with PS+ only on PS5
  • The Last of Us 2 Remaster
  • Ghost of Tsushima Remaster
  • Horizon Zero Dawn 2 (2021)
  • 2-3 AAA games more + PSVR2 games

The following are some non-exclusive titles that are going to release on the PS5:

  • Battlefield Bad Company 3
  • Harry Potter (The rumored Harry Potter RPG maybe)
  • GTA 6 (Holidays 2020)
  • Assassins Creed (Vikings theme maybe)

PSVR 2 And DualShock 5 Controller

The PSVR is going to be updated for the PS5. According to the specifications of the PS5, it will focus on VR and 4K. According to the leak, the PSVR2 will have a resolution of 2560×1440 and is designed to reduce motion sickness. It will have better tracking and no breaker box. Less cable management will be needed and the headset will come with integrated headphones. The headset should be priced at around $250.

The headset is going to be wireless and will have a battery life of 4-5 hours depending on the game that you are playing and the extent of use. Moving on to the DualShock 5 controller. It seems that the controller will have some kind of camera built into it to help with VR. The analog sticks are going to be more accurate in order to help in FPS games. It will also come with a better trackpad.

Pricing And Release

We already know that Sony is not going to be at E3 2019. The leaker has confirmed this as well. He mentioned that Sony will most likely have a small event at the end of 2019. This is where the PS5 will be revealed. Talking about the actual release, he mentioned that the window is not final right now and that it could release in March 2020 or November 2020. A new report suggests that the chips that will power the PS5 will be ready in Q3 2020. This means that the November 2020 release is more likely.

The leaker mentioned that the price of the PS5 is going to be $500. This is $100 more than the PS4 cost at launch. This might seem a bit wild but it is possible keeping in mind the price of the PS4 Pro.
