These number puzzle locations are boxes that require you to set the numbers in sequence to unlock the item inside. You are given three moves to set the numbers in the right order which is not all that tough, but will help to unlock faster if you know the correct moves, especially if you are in a hurry.

Number Box # 1

This box is located inside the Underground Temple, when you receive Shiden. Right when you are about to exit the temple, you will find a chest on your right. This box requires the number challenge to unlock.

Solution: Rotate the left side of the four number set once, then the right side of the four number set once, and then back to the first set of numbers which need to be rotated again. This box will give you a Rope Ladder that you can collect.

Number Box # 2

This box can be found after the cutscene with Kaede and Yumamaru in the abandoned keep. First, you need to head through the door that is at the end of the hallway. Then head through the room with the stairs ahead. Just under the stairs will be a doorway that will take you to the box as you enter it.

Solution: to solve the number box and to collect its item, you need to rotate the left set of four numbers once, then the right set of four numbers twice. This will open the box and give you a Bow.

Number Box # 3

This box can be located in the keep underground. Get back to the door that you opened using the Purifier Bell, and continue straight ahead where you will see a door locked by green plasma and two locks. Head through the door and look for a green glow at the other end of the room. You will find a large box to the right of Samanosuke.

Solution: to unlock the box, you need to solve the puzzle in three moves. Turn the middle set of numbers once, then the left set of numbers once, and then finally the right set of four numbers need to be turned once to correctly set the numbers. This will give you a Blue Key.

Number Box # 4

This box can be located in the West Area, once you use the Silver and Gold plates to open the door that leads you into the burning building. Head through the door, which leads you to a small room with a set of steps, head up the steps that take you to the next room with another large box.

Solution: this box can be unlocked by turning the center set of four numbers once, the left set of four numbers twice, and then the right set of four numbers twice. This will give you the Sacred Knife.

Number Box # 5

This box can be found after you use the Decorated Sword to enter the East Area. Continue along the path that leads over the bridge. This will take you to a locked door behind a 2 lock green plasma. Once you open the door, head on down the first hallway to your left. Right at the end of this hallway will be a scroll on the wall that can be collected. Continue forward until you see a door to your left.

The door can be opened with a maxed out Arashi. Continue forward until you get to the waterfall, with enemies behind it. The box will be in this area.

Solution: this box can be unlocked by turning the bottom left of four set numbers once, then top right of the four set of numbers, then bottom right set of numbers, then bottom left of numbers again, and lastly the bottom right of the four set of numbers. This will give you Great Armor.

Number Box # 6

This box can be found in the East Area, after getting the second magic mirror as Kaede. Continue into the next room and follow the hallway. Instead of going straight ahead, use the door on the opposite side of the wall in the nook. Once you are inside, take the ladder and head up into the next room where you will find a box.

Solution: this box can be unlocked by turning the left set of four numbers twice, the middle set of four numbers once, the right set of numbers twice, and the middle set of four numbers twice. This will give you Decorated Arrow.
