Guerrilla Games has announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new co-op action game set in the Horizon universe, currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC. The studio confirmed that the project will support up to three players in online co-op and will enter a closed playtest later this month via the PlayStation Beta Program.
Guerilla Games is known for creating an amazing array of single-player titles for different Sony consoles, starting way back on the PS2. Some of their most prominent works include the Killzone and Horizon franchises. Killzone was an FPS with an amazing campaign and multiplayer, but since Horizon Zero Dawn, the studio has been focusing more on narrative experiences than competitive gameplay. The upcoming Horizon Hunters Gathering seems to be changing its direction after a long time.
Guerrilla’s New Co-Op Action Game Horizon Hunters Gathering Takes a Fresh Approach to the Franchise
Designed as a co-op-focused experience, Horizon Hunters Gathering places players in the role of elite Hunters tasked with protecting a machine-infested world. Combat builds on the tactical foundations of the mainline Horizon titles while shifting toward reactive, team-driven encounters. Players select from a roster of distinct Hunters, each with unique weapons, roles, and playstyles, further customized through a roguelite-inspired perk system.
At launch, Guerrilla plans to test two core modes. Machine Incursion centres on wave-based encounters where teams fend off escalating machine assaults capped by boss fights, while Cauldron Descent offers longer, multi-stage runs featuring procedurally changing rooms, optional challenges, and higher-risk rewards. Both modes will be playable in the upcoming closed playtest on PS5 and PC.
Outside of missions, players regroup in a shared social hub known as Hunters Gathering, where gear upgrades, customization, and team coordination take place. Guerrilla also confirmed that the game is fully canon within the Horizon timeline and includes a narrative campaign, with additional story content planned beyond launch.
From a broader perspective, Horizon Hunters Gathering marks Guerrilla’s most direct move into cooperative multiplayer since its Killzone era, reflecting a wider industry shift toward shared-action experiences within established single-player franchises. The studio’s emphasis on testing, iteration, and early player feedback suggests a cautious approach as Horizon expands beyond its traditional open-world format.
A small-scale closed playtest is scheduled for late February, with cross-play and cross-progression supported between PS5 and PC. Players can register interest through the PlayStation Beta Program.
