Frogwares released their investigation-horror title The Sinking City back in 2019 and it was one of the best titles that I played in 2019. Fast-forward to 2021 today and Frogwares has stealth-launched The Sinking City on PS5 with next-gen upgrades that utilize the console’s power and functionalities. The Sinking City is getting a digital-only release on the PS5 which was released today at midnight in all regions.
This time around, The Sinking City has been self-published by Frogwares as we previously reported of the ongoing legal battle between Frogwares and NACON over the publishing of the original release. Frogwares has shared a new PS5 gameplay trailer showcasing the loading times, graphics comparison, and additional features as well. Check it out below:
Frogwares also issued a statement regarding the platform upgrade of the title and detailed that since both versions have a different publisher, a platform upgrade is not possible until the legal battle between the two parties is resolved. Coming back to the PS5 version, the developer has shared a list of confirmed updates featured in the PS5 version of the game:
- 4K (3840×2160) resolution
- 60 frames per second
- Improved graphical fidelity
- Improved loading times
- Additional quests – part of the Merciful Madness DLC (included in Deluxe Edition, or as a separate purchase)
- DualSense controller features
- PS5 activities support
Frogwares has also dropped the price of the PS5 version to just $49.99 for the standard edition and 64.99 for the Deluxe Edition. In addition to this, all PS Plus subscribers will also get an additional 20% discount if they purchase The Sinking City on the PS5. Serge Chervonnyi, Head of Production said:
As the sole owner and publisher of The Sinking City on PS5, we have chosen to price the game in a region that we feel is fair to players for this type of game. We’ll also be carefully looking at how we price all our future releases to try to keep with this way of thinking
The PS5 version of The Sinking City is now available on the PS5 and you can now jump in the game to try out the new features. The developer is also putting together an extensive digital artbook that features the game’s journey from its conception to release. All PS5 purchases will get the digital artbook for free at a later date.
