Apex Legends Valkyrie Guide – Abilities, How to Play as Valkyrie

Apex Legends Valkyrie Guide

This Apex Legends Valkyrie Guide will show you how to play as the new Legend in the game’s latest season. Apex Legends Season 8 is just about to launch in a few hours, bringing in new content for the game, along with a new Legend called Valkyrie.

Kairi Imahara who goes by the name of Valkyrie in Apex Legends is a bold, fiery, and fierce character in both the arena and outside of it. She comes equipped with her VTOL jets that allow her aerial mobility best used for scouting and her missile swarm attack that is designed to send forth damage and stun-inducing effects on targets. If that isn’t enough, she can use her ultimate ability, benefitting the whole team and allowing everyone to shoot upwards and relocate to some other part of the area, much like how the jump towers work.

Before we look at how to best use Valkyrie’s abilities, let’s first take a look at each of them and their effects.

Valkyrie Abilities

This list contains all the abilities that come with Valkyrie.

  • Passive Ability – VTOL Jets: Use a jetpack to fly. Fuel is limited but refills over time
  • Tactical Ability – Missile Swarm: Fire a swarm of mini-rockets that damage and disorient the enemy
  • Ultimate Ability – Skyward Dive: Launch into the air and skydive. Allies can hook into take-off systems to join you.

Valkyrie Combat Tips

Valkyrie’s passive ability of her VTOL Jets will be the main attraction for every player using this new Legend in the new season. Flying upward and hovering to give you an aerial sight of everything around you in a few hundred meters is going to be a good way to scout enemies nearby. However, her VTOL Jets run on fuel, which will be indicated on the right. These jets can suck up fuel very fast, giving you just enough time to hover, but not so much that you get used to hovering all the time.

VTOL Jets are best used for a couple of things, which will become very apparent as you play a few matches with Valkyrie. The first is pairing her passive ability to use jets with the Tactical Missile Swarm ability. The aerial position allows you to get a good look at the enemy position while using the tactical allows you to target and then send forth the missiles at the set location.

The other way to best use VTOL is during your movement and running. VTOL Jets not only allow you to hover but give you a short burst when running or jumping a short height. A little boost by the jets during your jumps gives you a short speed gain, allowing you to dash forward or quickly move around corners. This, however, will come with practice and as you get used to using the jets.

Now you may be thinking that VTOL Jets are OP, but Respawn has done its homework after learning from Horizon. VTOL Jets may look like they are zooming you around, but they aren’t that fast that opponents can’t see you. In fact, it makes you a bigger target because of the noise the jets produce, instantly attracting the enemy’s sight at your location. This is where players will have to use the VTOL Jets to maneuver around just a little bit and pair it with the tactical ability.

Her Tactical Missile Swarm ability is where you can fire a series of rockets at a set location. You can set the location of the swarm and where the rockets should land, before launching them. This works best when you are in an aerial position as it allows you to see where each of your rockets will land and explode. The rockets don’t deal a ton of damage but are enough to stun the enemies by slowing them down and eating a chunk off from their health.

Finally, her Ultimate ability which is the Skyward Dive is a really good repositioning ability that can be used by every member of the team. This only works when teammates are hooked on to Valkyrie when she activates this move. The ability shoots the players up quite a distance, where the players can then normally dive to land wherever they want. The ability works just like the jump towers except that you can use it wherever you want. However, the ability charges for a few seconds before you are shot up, so make sure you use it somewhere safe.
