Anthem PC is already available in early access and if you have access to the game then you already know that there are a couple of issues. Putting that aside we are going to talking about the optimization of Anthem on PC and the different settings that you can play with in order to get better performance if you are unable to hit 60 FPS.
Before we can talk about Anthem PC optimization, you should know about the hardware requirements of the game and what you need in order to run the game how the developer intended it to be played.
Anthem PC Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i5 3570 or AMD FX-6350
- RAM: 8 GB System Memory
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 760, AMD Radeon 7970 / R9280X
- GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory
- HARD DRIVE: At least 50 GB of free space
- DIRECTX: DirectX 11
Recommended Requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X 3.5 GHz
- RAM: 16 GB System Memory
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060/ RTX 2060, AMD RX 480
- GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory
- HARD DRIVE: At least 50 GB of free space
- DIRECTX: DirectX 11
Anthen supports Nvidia DLSS technology and that is why the RTX 2060 is recommended. AMD does not think that this is an ideal solution but if you really need to hit the 60 FPS mark then that is an option that you can use, provided that you have an RTX graphics card. Now that we have the hardware requirements out of the way, we can move on to the different settings that you can tweak when playing Anthem on PC.
Anthem PC Optimization And Settings
Your performance and variance will depend on the hardware that you are using and the resolution of your display. We used the GTX 1070 and played the game on a 1080p display. If you have a weaker graphics card or are running the game at a higher resolution then you should get lower FPS as compared to what we have mentioned here.
Before we get into the details, let me tell you that Anthem PC optimization is decent at best. While it is not poor, it is not amazing either. You will need a decent PC in order to run the game at 60 FPS at decent settings.
Graphics Quality
Graphics quality obvious will have a significant impact on FPS and performance. If you are not willing to compromise on the visuals then you should tweak other settings first but depending on your hardware, turning down the settings can give you a performance boost of up to 40%.
Anti-Aliasing
Here you can choose between temporal AA or TAA. There is an ultra option as well. Changing this setting will give you a significant boost in performance but you will need to tweak the settings in order to find the best balance between performance and visuals.
Ambient Occlusion
Here you can switch between standard SSAO and HBAO. Ambient Occlusion is taxing on the graphics card and turning this setting down will give you a major boost in performance. Unless you have the top of the line graphics card, you should stick to SSAO.
Texture Quality
Texture quality determines how sharp different objects look. Turning down this setting does not have a major effect on the performance.
Texture Filtering
This is another setting that does not have much of an impact on performance and you can leave it at high or medium without losing image quality.
Mesh Quality
Turning down the mesh quality can also give you a minor boost in performance but it is not as major as Anti-Aliasing or Ambient Occlusion.
Lighting Quality
Lighting effects can be taxing on the graphics card and can give you a small boost in performance if you turn this setting down when playing Anthem on PC.
Effects Quality
Effects can also be taxing on graphics but they are not as taxing as Anti-Aliasing or Ambient Occlusion, at least in this case.
Terrain Quality
The open world in Anthem is a huge one and that is why turning the terrain quality down can give you a small boost in performance depending on your hardware and resolution but it is not as taxing as other settings when you are playing Anthem on PC.
Vegetation Quality
Vegetation quality will impact the greenery in the game. There is a lot of greenery in Anthem and you can turn this setting down if you need a few extra frames. Again, this setting will not give you a significant boost in performance as other more demanding settings.
