In this Mewgenics Scalding Orb Guide, we will see how to handle the Orb and complete this objective without ruining your run. After beating Pyrophina in Mewgenics, you receive an important quest item called the Scalding Orb. Unlike other key items that simply need to be delivered somewhere, this one tells you to “feed” it to The Man in the Moon. That instruction sounds simple, but the way you actually do it is not as obvious as it seems.
Scalding Orb Guide – Mewgenics
Once Pyrophina is defeated, the Scalding Orb is automatically placed in your inventory. Your next goal is to travel through Act 2 and reach The Moon, where The Man in the Moon is waiting.
However, holding the Orb is risky. If a cat still has the Scalding Orb at the end of its turn, that cat will receive 3 Burn. This damage adds up quickly, so you can’t just leave it on one character the entire time. To avoid this, you must keep passing the Orb between cats before their turns end.
There is another problem to watch out for. If you pass the Orb to a cat that currently has a weapon equipped, that weapon will be destroyed. Because of this, it is smart to keep two cats without weapons during this section of the run. You can safely rotate the Orb between those two, so no one takes Burn damage, and no weapons are lost.
Feeding The Man in the Moon
When you finally reach the boss at The Moon, it is time to use the Orb. You don’t feed it by throwing or passing it. Instead, you need to wait for the right moment in the fight.
Watch The Man in the Moon closely. When his mouth opens, move the cat carrying the Scalding Orb directly in front of him. If positioned correctly, he will immediately bite down on that cat. This might look dangerous, but this is exactly what you want to happen.
After swallowing the Orb, the Man in the Moon instantly dies. Your cat will take some damage during this moment, but it will not be killed. The boss spits the cat back out, ending the battle right there.
Defeating The Man in the Moon this way does more than just finish the fight. The large obelisk at the top of The Moon will rise afterward. This is part of the ongoing main quest progression.
From here, you will need to wait for Zaratana to visit your house. He will collect the mysterious object connected to the obelisk, which is later used in The Core.
