Nioh 3 Kusanagi Boss Battle Guide – How to Defeat

Nioh 3 Kusanagi Boss Battle Guide

This Nioh 3 Kusanagi Boss Battle Guide details all the tips and tricks you need to defeat Kusanagi. Kusanagi may look like a two-enemy encounter at first, but this fight only has one target. The large monster, Kusanagi, is the boss you need to defeat. A sorceress appears alongside him, but she has very low health and doesn’t pose any threat. Even if you defeat her, she will revive on her own and sometimes surrounds herself with a protective shield, making her a waste of time. Once Kusanagi falls, the sorceress is defeated automatically.

Kusanagi Boss Battle Guide – Nioh 3

You will face Kusanagi Boss in The Spirit Tree Village Mission at level 89, and you should use Ninja Style with Dual Swords. This boss fight is of low difficulty for a higher-level boss.

If you explored carefully and completed side activities and Myths in earlier regions, you should already be close to level 100. Wearing gear around level 95 or higher makes this battle much easier. If needed, you can craft better equipment at the Forge before attempting this mission. Proper preparation turns this into a very controlled fight rather than a chaotic one.

How to Defeat the Boss

The fire-based Ninjutsu strategy continues to be very effective here. Shrapnel Bomb, combined with Uncanny Flame, deals strong burn damage to Kusanagi, and the damage over time helps reduce his large health pool steadily. Investing at least 30 points into Skill increases the power of your Ninjutsu, making the burning effect even more impactful.

During the fight, stay mobile and use forward-left dodges to slip behind Kusanagi. Land a few quick strikes with your Dual Ninja Swords until your Ninjutsu gauge fills. Once ready, create space and unleash all your Ninjutsu from a safe distance. At the same time, activate your summoning seals to stack additional damage. By this stage in the game, you should have two summoning slots available, so equip both and rotate between them while throwing Ninjutsu.

This approach allows you to avoid staying in close combat for too long. Most of the battle becomes a cycle of attacking briefly, backing away, and bombarding him with Ninjutsu and summons while focusing on clean dodges. Since the sorceress is not your priority, ignoring her reduces unnecessary pressure and keeps the fight simple.

With proper gear and steady execution, this boss should go down without much resistance.
