Nioh 3 Minamoto no Yoritomo Boss Battle Guide

This Nioh 3 Minamoto no Yoritomo Boss Battle Guide details all the tips and tricks you need to defeat the Minamoto in Nioh 3. Minamoto no Yoritomo is a winged yokai who controls wind and fights with a sword. His overall behavior feels like the earlier Great Tengu Boss. If you come prepared and stay mobile, this fight is very manageable.

Minamoto no Yoritomo Boss Battle Guide – Nioh 3

You will face Minamoto no Yoritomo in the Frozen City, Blazing Tree Mission at level 86, and you should use Ninja Style with Dual Swords. This boss fight is of low difficulty for a higher-level boss. Make sure you completed side objectives and collected everything in previous regions, since those extra stat boosts make a noticeable difference in this fight.

How to Defeat the Boss

This battle also works very well with the same Ninjutsu-focused strategy. Equip Shuriken, Uncanny Flame, and Shrapnel Bomb. Your goal is to move behind him quickly using forward-left dodges, land a few fast strikes with Dual Ninja Swords, then disengage and throw all your Ninjutsu and Magic Summoning at once. After unloading your Ninjutsu, repeat the cycle.

For survivability and damage, investing mainly into Heart, Skill, and Magic is helpful, while keeping at least 20+ Constitution gives you a safer health pool. Light armor under 30% weight allows faster dodges, which is very useful against his wind-based attacks.

His grab attack looks threatening, but is actually simple to avoid. A well-timed dodge forward-left is usually enough to escape it. He frequently uses wind attacks from a distance, but these can be avoided by sidestepping at the right moment.

When he shifts into his second phase, the fight becomes more projectile-heavy. He will send multiple wind shots and then create a wind shockwave across the ground. During this sequence, focus fully on evasion until the attack chain ends. After he finishes firing, that is usually your opening to run in and land a few clean hits. Also, whenever he transitions between phases, he briefly leaves himself open, giving you a good chance to strike from behind for serious damage.

Your fire-based Ninjutsu is especially strong in this fight. Uncanny Flame and Shrapnel Bomb can ignite him quickly, and the burning damage continues to damage him while you reposition or dodge.

The most dangerous moment comes when he glows red. He will charge at you twice in a row with strong tracking. This attack hurts a lot and can end the fight if you are careless. You can either practice the dodge timing carefully, counter it with your spirit skill (R1 + Square), or perform a style shift (R2) if you are comfortable with that mechanic. Choosing the option you are most confident in is safer than hesitating.

With patience and dodging, this winged warrior should not cause too much trouble.
