The new and improved Nintendo Switch model is now officially available at retail giants like Amazon and Best Buy in the US with some units having a $25 in-store credit vouchers too, pretty solid deal!
The main highlight of this new switch model is the battery, Nintendo now promises a better battery life that will give players an estimated amount of 4.5 to 9 hours of life after a complete 100% charge. This is a big change and improvement if you compare it with the older units that gave out a battery life of 2.5 to 6 hours or the 3 to 7 hours of new Lite releasing next month. It does remind me of the whole Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Note 9 scene (a better battery was the highlight there too).
Early test runs done by YouTuber called MeeMeGame channel shows the switch lasting for 5 hours and 36 minutes while playing the blockbuster launch title “Breath of the Wild” another test was also done that showed the newly released fan-favorite Fire Emblem Three Houses running for two hours in handheld mode with 60% battery remaining.
Another YouTuber currently famous for making switch-based videos previously confirmed that new switch model also has an updated screen model number which would explain why his tests revealed that the new screen is both brighter and closer to true white balance in terms of tone.
Alongside all of this, the updated Switch model’s Tegra X1 processor also runs cooler, which in turn keeps your Switch from heating up as much (trust me nothings scarier than your switch getting hotter than a bbq grill).
It’s worth mentioning that despite these improvements, the new Switch model isn’t a comparable upgrade to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, so there aren’t any increases in performance other than a longer-lasting battery.
This wasn’t the improved version of Nintendo’s flagship console which we all wished to see but I guess all we could say is that the best is still yet to come.
