Grimdark Shooter Witchfire Gets New Gameplay Trailer Showcasing Magic-Infused Weapons

Witchfire Gameplay Trailer

Developer The Astronauts has released a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming grimdark shooter Witchfire that showcases magic-infused weapons. Featuring commentary from The Astronauts co-founder and creative director, Adrian Chmielarz, the latest video trailer reveals how guns in the game possess forbidden magic only accessible by witch hunters known as preyers. The Astronauts is known for making some really cool shooters such as Painkiller and Bulletstorm so we can expect some really cool weapons in their latest title as well:

The trailer showcases a powerful weapon called Hunger which might look like an ordinary pistol at first but in the hands of the witch hunter, it becomes a powerful relic of destruction. While using this weapon, if you land critical hits, the gun will start storing energy, and the more critical hits you land before you reload the next clip, the more amount of power is stored in some of the bullets of the newly loaded clip. For example, if you land two critical hits and then reload your weapon, you will get two bullets that are infused with tons of extra power.

If you manage to land three critical hits and then reload your clip, you will get even more power from your weapon in each shot. This is called the first and the second level of attunement and they greatly benefit from each shot that the weapon fires after each reload. If you manage to reach the final level of attunement with Hunger, it can incapacitate and obliterate your enemies with freezing magic. Similarly, other weapons in the game will have similar properties as well however they have not been revealed at this point.

Witchfire is a new and upcoming title by The Astronauts which was originally revealed as an arena-style fighter but now it has shifted its direction to open-level combat. The development is on the right track and now the game is slated for its Early Access release later this year. If you are interested in playing Witchfire when it comes out, make sure to check out its previous trailer which showcases the NVIDIA DLSS 3 tech in action in the game and while you are at it, add the game to your Epic Games Store wishlist as well.
