This is a huge number and Rockstar Games mentioned in their official reveal that these animals are not just fillers. Each specie will react differently and behave to their environments differently. Players will also be able to interact with these animals in various activities such as hunting or fishing.
The animals range from deer, bison, beers, wolves to different types of fish. These animals will be a major part of the game and they will help in making the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 more lively.
Fans of the series who have played the original Red Dead Redemption are already familiar of animals being present in the game. The first game featured nearly 36 different animal species and hunting was also present in the game.
This time around, we will also be able to do some fishing, as different types of fish are also present in the game. It will not be just humans that will be killing these wildlife in the game. Rockstar Games claim that the game is a big ecosystem and each specie will try to come out on top of the food chain.
Smaller species will fall prey to the bigger species, you will never know when tides will change, and the predator may become a prey as well in the game. The official words from Rockstar Games on wildlife and how they will impact the game are mentioned below.
The diverse habitats and climates of Red Dead Redemption 2 are home to around 200 species of animals, birds and fish, all of which behave and respond to their environment in a unique way.
Deer, bison and pronghorn traverse the plains in large herds, scavengers quickly sniff out carrion, sockeye salmon leap upstream, wolves attack in packs surrounding their prey, geese fly in fixed formations, possums play dead, rodents scamper into tree hollows, grizzly bears bluff charge when threatened, and birds of prey soar on thermals. They all form part of a complex ecosystem and must continually fight for their place on the food chain. The wilderness is at once a bountiful and perilous place, for both man and beast, and any predator can quickly turn prey.
