Developer IndieGala has announced an open alpha weekend for its upcoming open-world survival horror game VORAX. VORAX is set on a Mediterranean Island where a mysterious pathogen has infected the local population and now you must battle against numerous threats, collect resources, build shelter, and try to escape with your life. The open alpha of VORAX begins today and it will last until Sunday, February 19, 2023, during which you can try out VORAX’s Alpha demo.
VORAX is inspired by horror titles such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill and it immerses players into a first-person nightmare where they are trapped alone on an island filled with infected creatures. You step into the shoes of a mercenary who is sent on a mission on this island however this mission turns into an all-out fight for survival. You are equipped with the bare minimum and you have to explore the island to gather resources and materials to defend yourself. After your helicopter crashes, you must build your shelter and gear up so that you can defend yourself.
VORAX offers hundreds of items to pick up and craft as you can make whatever you can to survive in the game. You can craft different weapons and tools, hunt and gather food, build barricades and traps to stop the infected dead in their tracks, and make effective use of your time as you might be getting watched at all times in the game. The island has different locations such as urban homes, sewers, and caves with each location offering a different level of resources. Apart from resources, each location might also be hiding different types of infected so you might need to turn back and return later with better gear and supplies.
The final version of VORTAX will feature forty main quests which will offer players a reason to stay on the island and not just survive mindlessly. Exploration will still play a vital role in the game because the more you explore, the more you will find to build yourself up. The ultimate goal is to find out what happened on the island, investigate the mysterious VORAX virus, and how to fight against it while trying your best to survive and finally, escape the island. Key features of VORAX include:
- Defend Your Shelter: Sometimes hiding is the only option, but if the infected find you, you’ll want to have a sturdy base to defend yourself. Gather materials, board up your entrances, and craft traps, and hope your hard work pays off.
- Craft to Survive: An abandoned island means many resources for you to collect. Gather everything because you never know what could be of use. Craft weapons and tools, materials to heal yourself, barriers, and traps for your base, and more.
- Kill the Infected: The more you explore the island the more types of infected you’ll uncover. You’ll need to be quick to analyze how to take each one down or which ones are better left alone.
- Explore the Island: This Mediterranean island contains diverse locations from abandoned homes to sewers and caves. Each location offers loot and resources as well as many enemies to take down.
VORAX is currently in development however you can try out the Open Alpha for this weekend only. A Steam page for the game is live as well where you can add the game to your wishlist if you are interested in playing the game when it comes out. As of now, there is no confirmed release date or window announced for the game.
