Stardew Valley Developer is Going Solo, Self-Publishing Starting December 14

Stardew Valley

The developer behind the indie title Stardew Valley has announced that he is splitting from the publisher Chucklefish and will publish Stardew Valley himself from December 14.

However, the separation is not on a complete level. The developer will publish the PC, Xbox, PS4, and PSVITA versions himself while the Nintendo Switch and iOS versions will remain under Chucklefish. After 14th December, the console and PC versions will be published by himself alone.

The developer revealed this on his official blog where he stated that Chucklefish has been a great help in starting the publishing of the game and they helped immensely to kickstart the title by setting up the website, handling distribution, translations, and the wiki for the game.

Chucklefish’s biggest contribution to Stardew Valley was adding multiplayer to the game. The game came out as a single-player title only and Tom Coxon from Chucklefish made the multiplayer possible. Chucklefish will still handle the mobile versions and the Nintendo Switch port of the game.

His official statement stated

I’m at a point now where I’m ready to move forward on my own. I think self-publishing is the end-goal of most indie developers, and I’m happy to be in a place where that’s possible!

The developer also said that he has some exciting news about the future of the game and he is going to make some announcements very soon about the game. On the other hand, Chucklefish was cool with the developer’s wish and they wished him good luck on his self-publishing venture.

Their statement said

We are proud to be part of the Stardew Valley story and wish ConcernedApe every success with his new self-publishing venture. We will carry on working closely together and are particularly excited to be continuing to publish the versions of Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch and Mobile, including the upcoming Switch Multiplayer update (in submission now) and new Android version which we know many of you are looking forward to!
