Star Wars: Squadron is the Star Wars Dogfighting Game We Always Wanted

Star Wars Squadrons 4.0

EA, Motive Studios and Lucasfilm have revealed their next Star Wars game named Star Wars: Squadron. Star Wars: Squadron is an immersive first-person space dogfighting game that is set in the Star Wars universe. The game will feature intense 5v5 multiplayer dogfights, massive fleet battles, and an original story set during the final days of the Galactic Empire and rise of the New Republic after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

In Star Wars: Squadron, you will enlist as starfighter pilots as you step into some of the most iconic starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial Fleets. You will plan skirmishes with your teammates in the briefing room before taking off for space battles across the galaxy. You will engage in strategic 5v5 multiplayer space battles with a goal of demolishing the opposing flagship in Fleet Battles or defeat as many enemies as possible in Dogfights. Teamwork will be crucial in the game however players will be able to adjust the composition of their squadrons according to their own playstyles.

Ian Frazier, Creative Director, Motive Studios said:

We created this game for every Star Wars fan who has ever dreamt about soaring across the galaxy in their favorite starfighter. Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship. We’re excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live.

The game will also feature a single-player story that brings to life the events following the Battle of Endor when the Rebel Alliance has successfully destroyed the Death Star II. The story will allow you to learn what it means to be a pilot as you battle from the alternating perspectives of two customizable pilots. One of these pilots belongs to the New Republic’s heroic Vanguard Squadron while the second pilot fights for the Galactic Empire’s fearsome Titan Squadron. You will get to see a diverse cast of original characters as well as cameos from familiar faces in the Star Wars galaxy.

While playing the game, you will get access to rich cosmetic and gameplay customization options with rewards and bonuses that are earned solely through gameplay. This means that the game might not come with the dreaded loot boxes or microtransactions that EA games are famous for. As you move up the ranks, you will earn more components such as weapons, hulls, engines and shields to customize the performance of their starfighters and make their starfighters look unique with different paint jobs, ship exteriors, cockpit and appearance of the pilots as well.

The official gameplay of the game will be premiered on the upcoming EA Play event on June 18, 2020, at 4 PM PT. Star Wars: Squadron is slated for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The game will also release with VR support for PS4 and PC and will support cross-play as well. The release date is October 2, 2020.
