Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a Standalone PS5 Game

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Insomniac Games has confirmed that its recently announced game Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a standalone game for the PlayStation 5. This was confirmed by the developer studio in a tweet about their upcoming title.

After the game’s reveal at the Sony PlayStation 5 event, many thought the game to be an expansion with an enhancement of the previous game, considering that it is releasing on the next-gen PS5 console. This further became confusing when the EVP head of European business at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Simon Rutter, talked about the game in an interview with The Telegraph.

I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. There’s a substantial Miles Morales component — which is the expansion element — but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.

On the other hand, many fans were expecting some sort of a sequel for the Spider-Man game on the PS5. After the Miles Morales announcement, it was natural to think of it as an expansion of the game. Especially considering that it is planned for a release this holiday season, which might have been a tad bit too early to announce a sequel.

However, now that Insomniac has confirmed that it is indeed a standalone game, it will be interesting to see how the game is enhanced for the PS5, what story it will feature and how it is going to run on the next-gen console.

Insomniac Games also adds in the tweet that they will be providing more information at a future date. This means that there might be a planned date for a gameplay trailer or a short stream event that will feature the game’s detail and information.
