Review: SuperHot – The Iconic Shooter Retains its Glory on the Go

Review: SuperHot

SuperHot is an indie gem which is no stranger to gamers all around. Recently we have come to know that it’s best on the go. Why? Find out in our review of SuperHot on the Nintendo Switch.

When The World Of Gaming Became SuperHot

About three years ago SuperHot came out and became the freshest and most innovative shooter in the FPS genre as its a game where your movement sped time up, you had to time your shots and be extra careful. If Neo from The Matrix had his very own solo game SuperHot is pretty much what it’d look like.

All Reds Must Be Dead (Story)

The game surely has a story but it’s not something that you see in almost every game like there’s are no voice dialogues or cut scenes that feature live characters but trust me at first it seems straight-up weird but as it goes on it becomes one hell of a ride that twists your mind.

You get sucked into a virtual reality game which seems like a fun shooter at first but as you play and progress it reveals to be a bizarre piece of software which you continue to play. One little nitpick is that might it feel a little off as the game is designed to be a proper PC experience with its story, design and build.

Enter The Matrix (Gameplay)

For those who haven’t played the game before, in SuperHot your movement determines how fast the game move. if you’re running too fast all around then your enemies and their bullets will move fast too. Sometimes you have to work your way around slow as a snail to evade bullets. Levels are very tricky!

Controls on the Switch are very well put, with the trigger buttons you make all the “Reds dead” (see what I did there?) Using the thumbsticks on the Joycons to aim isn’t as perfect as you’d want it to be, luckily this a shooter that about ties standing still so you can take a lot of breathers here and there.

There’s also the option to use gyroscope built into the Switch Controllers which is said to be the better way to aim but in my experience after testing it in both docked and handheld mode, it is better to play with the thumbsticks as they have better aim and control. Gyroscope didn’t work well for me, couldn’t get the reticle in place most of the times

SuperHot Looker (Graphics)

SuperHot looks very good on the Nintendo Switch, yes there are moments where the graphics get a tiny bit more pixelated than usual on your screen. In docked mode, the game looks as good as the other console ports. Rest there are no crazy frame rate drops. doesn’t get slow when a lot is on screen. The Optimization is incredible!

Verdict

SuperHot on the Nintendo Switch is well…SUPERHOT and performs with no problems at all. The story is a little on the shorter side but side content and challenges keep you at it for extra hours. As Switched lacked fun shooters SuperHot comes in like a King. Yes joycons aren’t the greatest controllers to play with but still ultra fun none the less and that is exactly why SuperHot is one of the best shooters on Nintendo Switch at this time.

Final Score: 8.5/10
