PvE Open-World Pirate Survival Game Windrose Launches Demo, Trailer Ahead of Steam Next Fest

Indie developer and publisher Windrose Crew has announced the demo launch for its upcoming PvE open-world pirate survival game Windrose. This is the first official demo of the pirate survival adventure game, which was previously called Crosswind. In this small taste of the full game, players can expect to see exploration, crafting, building, and land and sea combat. It is playable both solo and in co-op.

Windrose is a pirate adventure game where players form their scurvy crew, develop their ship, and set out to explore uncharted seas. The new demo arrives just in time for the upcoming Steam Next Fest, which is taking place from February 23rd to March 2, 2026. It offers players a chance to try the co-op aspect of the title along with many of the other features.

Windrose’s upcoming demo features over 4-6 hours of content that goes over the foundations of the game’s upcoming Early Access release. Players will get a chance to learn the life of a pirate with some quests, getting their own shop, and exploring three islands from the game’s first major biome. It brings several game systems and mechanics to the table, such as exploration, survival, melee, and ranged combat, naval combat, ship boarding, crafting, and building.

The Early Access version is aiming to release with an expanded content offering as compared to this demo, and all players who try it out will also get an exclusive decorative spyglass. The developer also details in the official press release that the demo will feature self-hosted co-op multiplayer, but the Steam Early Access version will feature dedicated servers.
